Yvonne A. Flagg

December 31, 1939 — February 9, 2025

UTICA – Mrs. Yvonne A. (Moses) Flagg, age 85, a lifelong Utica resident, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, February 9, 2025, surrounded by the constant love and steadfast support of her devoted children at her bedside. Her passing occurred at the Abraham House in Rome, where she received compassionate and heartfelt care throughout the last weeks of her life’s journey.

Born in Utica on December 31, 1939, Yvonne was the daughter of the late Kalil Moses and Linda (Montrone) Joseph. She was raised and educated in Utica and attended T.R. Proctor High School. On July 25, 1958, Yvonne was married to the late William M. Flagg, and together they shared over 61 years in a blessed and devoted union. Bill passed away on March 28, 2020.

Yvonne was truly a woman of her time, dedicated first and foremost to her faith and her family. She was a Godly person who was wholesome, faithful and true to the ones she loved. Her strength was admirable, and she was known to be almost painfully honest! She was always there to lend an ear and assert her advice and was the consummate wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Honor and respect were important to Yvonne, and she truly led by example. She was selfless and giving and put everyone’s needs before her own, just to make sure that nobody went without. She could always be found in her kitchen and was a fantastic cook; never holding back on her thoughts of the dishes of others! Her sense of humor was contagious, and her demeanor was filled with optimism. She was truly a remarkable person, and her legacy will forever live on through the ones she leaves behind.

She is survived by her children, Michael and Anne Flagg of New Hartford, Linda and Tim Morey of Utica, William M. Flagg of Frankfort and Denise and John Poteat of Horseheads, NY; her grandchildren, Michael and Laura Flagg, Jennifer and DuWayne Engram, William S. and Megan Flagg, David Morey, Janaye and Cody Wall, Danielle and Steven Smith, Cara Flagg and Jeffrey Flagg; and her great-grandchildren, whom she absolutely adored, Camden, Carson, Will, Jake, Bearett, Nellie Mae and Brock. She also leaves her brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Sharon Moses of Marcy; along with numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and extended family members.

Yvonne was predeceased by her husband, Bill; her sisters, Madeline (Mike) Toti and Mary “Marie” Capirci; her in-laws, Rose Flagg, Arlene (Joseph) Baldomir and Wayne (Dolores) Flagg; and her special, lifelong friend, Dawn Proulx.

A special thank you is extended to the caregivers and staff of the Abraham House for the love, warmth and kindness shown to Yvonne and the Flagg family during these past weeks. For those wishing to do so, please consider memorial contributions to the Abraham House, 417 N. Washington Street, Rome, NY 13440 or by visiting https://www.theabrahamhouse.org/ways-to-support/donate/ .

In keeping with Yvonne’s wishes, there will be no public services. Her family will gather in a private ceremony to bid their farewells to her. Her earthly remains will be laid to rest at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Whitesboro, beside her beloved husband.
