IN LOVING MEMORY
MOHAWK - William “Loomy” D. Loomis, 69, passed away on April 20th, 2026, at Valley Health Services, with his wife and two daughters by his side. He fought his battle with cancer courageously until the very end.
Born on August 9th, 1956, Bill grew up and lived in Mohawk, New York. Alongside his siblings, he helped build the family camp on Canadarago Lake, where countless cherished memories were made. He loved waterskiing, boating, fishing, and anything that brought him onto the water. Some of his fondest memories were camping with his family and growing up on Garden Street. He also enjoyed golfing with his father.
Bill was an outstanding athlete who took great pride in his accomplishments in football and wrestling during his high school years. He graduated from Mohawk Central School in 1975. In 1978, he married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Kathi, and together they raised two daughters, Kasandra and Kelly.
He dedicated over 30 years of his career to Remington Arms, where he formed lasting friendships and was well known for his sense of humor and ability to bring laughter to those around him.
Outside of work, he had a deep love for music. He could often be found in his backyard wearing his signature white linen “boat” pants, listening to a wide range of artists while mowing the lawn, soaking up the sun, or sitting by the fire. He loved having many gatherings in his “man cave”. He was also an avid snowmobiler and enjoyed many rides with his close-knit group of friends.
In recent years, he took immense pride in his grandchildren, Lilly Marie and Axl William. Whether teaching them how to throw a baseball, showing them wrestling moves, finding worms after a rainstorm, fishing, or simply relaxing with Minions movies and junk food, he treasured every moment spent with them. After retiring, he enjoyed golfing more often, especially with his league, which included his son-in-law Paul and his dear friend George. He also cherished golfing with his sister Robbin and nephew McKensy, biking with his sister Laurie. Boat rides with his brother Mark and nephew Mark and fishing trips with his close friend Jimmy Monahan. He was always building or fixing something and took great care in keeping the birds fed at his feeders.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Kathleen (Sterling) Loomis; his daughters, Kasandra (Paul) Lebert and their son Axl, and Kelly (Jim) Baron and their daughter Lilly; his sisters, Laurie and Robbin Loomis, and nephew McKensy Reardon; his brother, Mark (Sue) Loomis, and nephew Mark; his loving father in-law Charles Sterling; his in-laws, Keith and Janet Sterling and their children Shelley and Chad; Samantha and Julia, Kevin and Terri Sterling and their children Matthew (Kate) and Marshall; Kolleen Rice and her daughter Rachel (Dan) Braund and their daughters Audi and Emmalyn; special cousin Todd Rankins and many special extended family members and friends, including John Glogowski, Jim Monahan, George Baron, Kevin Brown, Tom Phalen, Billy Jacquays, Nan Braund, and Danielle Morezek.
He was predeceased by his parents, William C. Loomis and Peg (Brien) Loomis; his nephew, William Brien Loomis; his mother-in-law, Jean Sterling; and his grandsons, Aiden and Benjamin Baron.
