Vincent "Bud" P. McCabe, 89, of 20 Newton St., Ilion, died Thursday, July 27, 2006, at Faxton-St. Lukes Healthcare, New Hartford. He was born on Aug. 27, 1916, in Middletown, N.Y., the son of Peter J. and Catherine (Dunnigan) McCabe, and attended Catholic school in Newburgh, N.Y. Bud was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy. On Nov. 8, 1941, he was married to Helen Briggs at St. John's Church, Beacon, N.Y. She died on Oct. 26, 2005. Mr. McCabe was employed as an electrician and packaging designer at Sperry Rand UNIVAC in Ilion and Utica for 25 years. He was later employed at the Herkimer County Community College as an electrician, retiring in 1981. Vincent was a member of Church of the Annunciation, Crowley-Barnum American Legion Post 25 and a life member of the Disabled American Veterans. Bud loved to travel with his wife, Helen, crossing the United States many times. He spent most of his time visiting family on the East Coast. Survivors include his daughter, Susan Weiner of Naples, Fla.; his son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Ellen McCabe, of Binghamton; five grandchildren, Robert McCabe and his wife Traci, Paul McCabe, Emily Goyne and her husband Thomas, Thomas McCabe and his wife Lisa and Ryan Weiner; two great-grandchildren, Allison and Scott McCabe; one sister, Kathleen Staniewicz of Honolulu, Hawaii; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his son, Vincent, in 1953, his son-in-law, Barry Weiner, his brother, Peter J. McCabe and his parents. Funeral services will be held at 9:15 a.m. Monday, July 31, at the Applegate & Day Funeral Home, 102 West St., Ilion, and 10 a.m. at the Church of the Annunciation, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Alfred Lamanna, assisted by Deacon James Bower. Burial will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, North Ilion. Calling hours are Sunday, July 30, from 2 p.m.-4 p.m. at the funeral home. The Mohawk American Legion service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorials in Vincent's name to your favorite charity.
