Victoria Tooma Dye

June 10, 1928 — December 19, 2024

VALATIE – Victoria Tooma Dye, age 96, of The Grand Barnwell in Valatie, NY passed away on December 19, 2024.

She was born June 10, 1928, in Central Falls, RI, the daughter of Samuel and Mary (Abdelnour) Tooma. She graduated as Salutatorian from Central Falls High School in 1947. She married Douglas Vernon Dye, Sr. on August 25, 1951 at St. Ephraim’s Syriac Orthodox Church in Central Falls, Rhode Island. He died on July 29, 1999, just shy of their 48th wedding anniversary.

She began her work life at Met Life in Providence, RI. She worked for many years as the administrative assistant to the director for the newly created Ulster County Office for the Aging. She was also secretary to good friend and Ulster County Attorney Dan Gaffney. Her sons remember their mom as the local Avon lady for years, successfully creating another income for the family.

Her commitment to community was evident. She was an active member for many years with the Sawkill Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary while living in Kingston. She was a Den Mother for the Sawkill Cub Scout troop, holding weekly meetings and activities for the cub scouts at her home. Later in life, she was a wonderfully loved member of the Millers Mills Grange # 581, spending many an ice cream social selling raffle tickets with her dear friend, the late Doris Huxtable.

Vicky enjoyed bowling, playing bridge, ceramics, gardening, canning, cooking and watching her Boston Red Sox and Miami Dolphins. Her greatest joys were cooking family meals, harvesting and canning her garden yield and spending time with her family.

Surviving family members include her sons, Douglas Vernon Dye, Jr., Dennis Vaughn Dye and David Victor Dye and his wife, Colleen; two grandsons, Cody Dye and his fiancée, Ginnelle Crews and Colton Dye and his wife, Kaleigh; two great-grandchildren, Cayden and Emersyn Dye; one nephew, Jeffrey Loiselle; one cousin, Samuel Tooma; one sister-in-law, Donna Magaro Dye; one brother-in-law, David Jeffalone Sr. and his wife, Marylou; as well as many loved nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and beloved husband, Douglas Vernon Dye, Sr., Victoria was predeceased by her sister, Anne Loiselle; her brother, Joseph Tooma; her brother-in-law, Edward Dye; her sister-in-law, Mary Dye Gilbert and her husband, Wilbur Gilbert; her brother-in-law, Frank Jeffalone Jr., and his wife, Charlotte; as well as her dear friend, Rosalie Kilfoyle.
