WEST WINFIELD - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Vernon Harvey Davis (Vern), 84 of West Winfield, NY who passed away at his home on April 5th, 2025, with his devoted wife of 51 years Patricia Skubitz Davis by his side.
Vern was born on May 28, 1940, in Mount Auburn, Illinois, to Alva and Pauline Davis. A man of immense kindness, wit, and intellectual curiosity, Vern touched the lives of so many who knew him. Vern grew up in Taylorville, IL but as a young man migrated to the Northeast, where he would spend the rest of his life. He bought and lovingly restored an old farmstead with his wife Patricia and there they lived happily for over forty years.
Vern enjoyed a 30+ year successful career in industrial sales before attending law school at age 54. He graduated with his Juris Doctor degree from City University of New York School of Law at Queens College, May 1997. Thereafter, he worked as a mediator. He was most proud of the over 500 mediations in which he presided. Vern was also civically minded and was involved in local politics as well as working as the tax assessor for the town.
Beyond his professional success, Vern was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He married Patricia Skubitz on November 21, 1973, and lovingly adopted her then four-year old daughter Stephanie. Together they all lived many years on the farmstead enjoying the country life. Vern was an avid reader who had a deep sense of curiosity and need for intellectual stimulation. Vern had a keen sense of humor and loved to spend time with his beloved family and the many rescue dogs he brought to the farm. Especially his last four pups, Spencer, Tori, Kacee Mae, and Piper.
Vern is survived by his wife, Patricia, his daughter Stephanie Manni and her husband Michael Manni (Poughkeepsie, NY); his granddaughter Michaela Manni (Boston, MA), as well as his sister-in-law Kate Skubitz (Utica, NY). He was predeceased by his siblings.
