MOHAWK - Thelma J. Scanlon, age 92, of Michigan St., Mohawk, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 31, 2014, at Valley Health Services, Herkimer.



She was born on January 5, 1922, in E. Frankfort, the daughter of Wallace and Maude (Gulliaume) Richardson, and attended Ilion schools. On February 26, 1938, she was married to Lawrence B. Scanlon in Herkimer. He died on January 6, 1986. Thelma was employed as a sewing machine operator at Derby Co., in Herkimer, and Duofold Co., Mohawk. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church, Mohawk, and Mohawk American Legion Auxiliary. Thelma was also past Senior Regent and a fifty year member of the Ilion Women of the Moose.



Survivors include her son, Paul Scanlon, with whom she resided in Mohawk; her daughters, Geraldine Scanlon, of Utica, and Laura Scanlon, of Utica; five grandchildren, Lawrence Natale, Jesse Natale, Paul M. and Adam Scanlon, and Melissa Barnes; four great-granddaughters, Chelsea and Shania Barnes, and Crystal and Grace Scanlon; a great-grandson, Brandon; several nieces, including a special niece, Thelma J. Richards; and several nephews and cousins.



She was predeceased by her daughter, Ruth Scanlon; her son, Lawrence Scanlon; two brothers, David and Wallace Richardson; two sisters, Ruth Gilligan and Elizabeth Culver; and special cousins, James Richardson and Florence Scanlon.



Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 5, 2014, at the Blessed Sacrament Church, 54 E. Main St., Mohawk, where a Funeral Mass will be celebrated by the Very Rev. Mark Cunningham, Sacramental Minister, assisted by Sister Mary Jo Tallman, Parish Life Director. Burial will be held later at Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer, on Friday, September 12, 2014, at 11:00 a.m.



Calling hours will be held on Thursday, September 4, 2014, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home's newly reopened location at 102 West St., Ilion.



The Mohawk American Legion Auxiliary service will be held 5:30 p.m., Thursday, September 4, 2014, and the Ilion Women of the Moose service will be held 6:00 p.m., Thursday, September 4, 2014, at the funeral home.
