Terrence J. Nicholson

Terrence J. Nicholson, 92, a longtime resident of Clark Mills and Caroga Lake, passed away, at home, unexpectedly on Thursday morning, April 24, 2025.

Terry was born in Utica on August 14, 1932, the son of the late Stephen and Sarah (LaPorte) Nicholson. He proudly served his country in the US Army. He was a graduate of Utica Parochial Schools, Utica College and received an Executive MBA from Syracuse University.

On August 26, 1961 he married the former Doris White in Gloversville . Terry was lastly Comptroller for Utica Corp. for many years before retirement. In retirement he gave freely of his time to many with advice on running a more efficient and cost-effective business.

Terry was a member and former treasurer at the Yahnundasis Golf Club, former treasurer for the Oneida County Ambulance Service, former Adjunct Professor of Cost Accounting at Herkimer County Community College. He was also active in the Clark Mills Little League and Clinton Hockey Club.

Terry enjoyed the time he spent at his camp on Caroga Lake. He enjoyed woodworking, splitting wood and just puttering in his shop at camp, aptly named “Terry’s Toy”. He also enjoyed sitting by a campfire with a cocktail with a friend or golfing with his kids at Nick Stoner Golf Course. He was also a great fan of the St Louis Cardinals and of the SU Orange basketball and football teams, attending many home games and listening to away games on the radio.

Terry loved his family, especially his children, Nancy, Stephen and John, and his best friend, Dori. He was so proud of them and their accomplishments and supported them unconditionally, throughout the years. He was especially proud of the fact he paid for their college education. He will be remembered as a kind soul that was ready to help anyone in need with a smile.

Terry is survived by his loving family, his wife Dori, his sons, Stephen (Angela) Nicholson, Rouses Point, John Nicholson (Laurie), Utica; grandson, Benjamin J. Bogan; son-in-law Jerry Bogan, Amsterdam; sister-in-law, Joan White, Caroga Lake, and several nieces, nephews and cousins and longtime friends, Albert Mozloom and John Barone.
