UTICA-NEW HARTFORD – Susanne W. Selwood, age 85, of Acacia Village, Utica, formerly of Woodbrooke Road, New Hartford, passed away peacefully, on Aug. 30, 2023, at St. Luke’s Hospital, New Hartford, NY.
She was born on August 26, 1938, in Steyr, Austria, the daughter of Franz and Martha Weibl and attended schools in Austria. On Aug. 4, 1964, Susanne married Robert W. Selwood, in Steyr, Austria. She became a U.S. citizen in 1970 and one would never know that English was her second language if not for her notable Austrian accent.
She so enjoyed singing in the Choir, participating in bible study, playing scrabble and computer games and being rewarded with a daily glass of Chardonnay.
Surviving family members include her daughter, Deborah Selwood, of Ayer, MA; her stepdaughter, Phyllis Brewer, of Ilion; her stepsons, Robert Selwood, Jr., of Highbridge, NJ and James Selwood, of Homosassa, FL; her 2 sisters, Irmgard and Ingrid, of Austria; and extended family in both the U.S. and Austria.
She was predeceased by her husband, Robert; her daughter, Sandra; her sister, Anneliese; and her parents.
Visitation will be held on Friday, Sept. 8, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. to 12 noon, at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home’s original location, at 102 West St., Ilion, NY. A Memorial Service will immediately follow visitation, at 12 noon, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Bridgewater.

In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to the Masonic Care Community of New York, 2150 Bleecker St., Utica, NY 13501. Envelopes will also be available at the funeral home services.
Susanne’s service arrangements and supervision are entrusted to her Family Funeral Director, Don Applegate.
