Susan E. Scialdo

September 25, 1953 — May 28, 2026

Naples, Florida

Susan Elizabeth Scialdo, age 72, of Naples, Florida, passed away peacefully on May 28th, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born on September 25, 1953, in Herkimer, New York, to William and Elizabeth (Collis) Oldfield, Susan's greatest life adventure began when she married Marshall Scialdo in 1970. Together, they built a marriage that would endure for 56 years through every joy, challenge, and triumph life could bring. In 1984, they moved their family to Naples, Florida, in pursuit of new opportunities and dreams for the future. Though they built their lives in Naples, Susan always carried a special place in her heart for her hometown of Herkimer and the family roots that remained there.

Susan was preceded in death by her beloved son, SSG Marc Anthony Scialdo; her parents, William and Elizabeth (Collis) Oldfield; and her brother, Ronald Oldfield.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Marshall Scialdo; her daughter, Claudine Ehlers, and grandson, William Reid Harvey; her daughter, Jackie Nelson, husband Rod Nelson, and grandsons River and Skyler Nelson; her son, David Scialdo, wife Ashley Scialdo, and grandchildren Jake, Henry, Marc, and Scout; and her brother, Paul Oldfield and his partner, Susan Thomas; and her sister-in-law, Sharon Riesel Oldfield; and many beloved brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

While Susan was proud of many accomplishments throughout her life, her greatest joy was her family. She spent decades driving children to baseball and softball games, cheerleading practices, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, school events, and countless activities in between. She was the organizer, the chauffeur, the problem-solver, the giver of advice, and the steady presence behind it all. Through every stage of life, her children knew they could count on her.

Susan especially cherished her seven grandchildren - six grandsons and one granddaughter - each of whom held a special place in her heart. She delighted in celebrating their accomplishments, hearing about their adventures, and watching them grow. She loved each of them beyond measure.

Whether you were a lifelong friend, a neighbor, a customer, or someone she had only recently met, Susan had a way of making you feel special. She formed genuine connections wherever she went and often referred to people as "her friend" because that is how she saw them. Known for her thoughtful gifts and generous spirit, visitors rarely left her home empty-handed. Susan found joy in making others feel remembered, appreciated, and cared for.

Alongside Marshall, Susan helped build a successful family pest control business that served Southwest Florida for decades. She loved getting to know customers and took a genuine interest in their lives. To Susan, they were never just customers - they were people, and many became friends.

Following the loss of her son, Marc, who was killed while serving his country in Afghanistan in 2013, Susan carried both profound grief and immense pride. She found comfort and support through her involvement with Gold Star Mothers, an organization that held a special place in her heart. She was grateful for the friendships, understanding, and connection it provided during one of the most difficult chapters of her life.

Those who knew Susan will remember her strength, determination, wisdom, generosity, and unwavering devotion to her family. She was the rock of her family, the keeper of traditions, the one who remembered birthdays, and her absence will be deeply felt by all who loved her.

Her legacy lives on in the family she cherished, the values she instilled, and the countless lives she touched through her kindness, generosity, and unwavering love.

She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever carried in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 20th, 2026, at 10:30 am at the Palm Royale Cemetery in Naples, Florida, where she will be laid to rest next to her son, Marc Scialdo.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff of Avow Hospice for the exceptional care, comfort, and dignity they provided to Susan during her final days. Their kindness, support, and guidance brought peace not only to Susan but to her entire family during a difficult time. They will always be grateful for the compassion they showed and the comfort they provided when it was needed most.
