Susan C. Potter

Susan Carol (Wilkinson) Potter, age 79, of Ilion passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side on June 9,2026.

Born in Chicago, Illinois on December 15,1946, Susan was the daughter of the late Irwin G. Wilkinson and Elizabeth K. (Noldan) Wilkinson. She grew up in Milford, N.Y. and graduated from Milford High School in June of 1966. On June 8, 1968, she married Terry S. Potter at Milford United Methodist Church. Their loving marriage lasted 58 years.

Susan graduated from Fulton Montgomery Community College in 1969 later she graduated from SUNY College of Technology earning her Bachelor's degree in Professional Studies in 1984. Susan worked at The Masonic Home in Utica, N.Y. as a Social Work Assistant where she retired. She also worked part time jobs at the Herkimer Home in the kitchen as well as area school districts working in the kitchen and bus monitoring.

Susan was a long-time standing member of the United Methodist Church, later the Morning Start Ministries for over 50 years. Susan had a strong sense of community and service volunteering for many years at the Folts Home Gift Shop and the Cornerstone Secondhand Shop. She was also a proud member of the T.O.P.S group in Mohawk. Susan was a host mother from 1995-2005 for the Academic Year in America (A.Y.A) Foreign Exchange Program where she and Terry hosted 13 students from Germany, Thailand, Chili and Russia. Susan and Terry also were host parents to Run away and Homeless Youth in Herkimer County.

Susan enjoyed traveling, gardening, and decorating for every holiday. She loved visiting with her family and friends most of all. Susan was a loving caregiver, a devoted wife, and the best mother a child could ever have. Susan always put her faith in God in every aspect of her life.

Susan is survived by her husband, Terry Potter, daughters Bonnie Ann Allen and Brian of Ft. Worth Texas, Melissa Lee Scanlon and Robert of Herkimer, NY, and Kari Sue Potter of Horseheads, N.Y. She leaves behind her loving grandchildren, Kenneth Allen, Devin Fischer (Kyle), Alexandra Fischer (Anthony) and Andrea Lanphier (Eli). Two Great Grandchildren, Jase Durfee and Saylor Yeomans. Susan is also survived by her brother David Wilkinson (Brenda), sister-in-laws Jean Harris (Paul) and Nancy Wilkinson, Wendy Ruffles and Kimberly Carlson, along with several nieces and nephews.

Susan was predeceased by her parents, Irwin and Katherine Wilkinson, brothers Irwin Wilkinson Jr, Daniel Wilkinson and Jack Wilkinson and her sister Judy Wilkinson.

Family and friends are invited to a memorial service held at the Frankfort United Methodist Church, 4224 Acme Rd Frankfort, N.Y. on Friday, June 19, 2026, at 11:00am. Family will receive visitors in the community room following the funeral service. A burial service will be held at the Milford Cemetery at the convenience of Susan's family.
