Susan A. Hoover

Mrs. Susan Ann Hoover, a lifelong resident of Ilion, NY, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 21, 2026, surrounded by her loving family in the comfort of her home at the age of 70.

Susan was born in Ilion, NY on July 4, 1956, to the late Arnold and Mary (Enright) Miller. She attended Ilion School District and then attended Herkimer County BOCES continuing education program where she became a Licensed Practical Nurse. Susan spent over 30 years dedicated to taking care of patients, first at the Folts Home, Little Falls Hospital and most recently Slocum Dickson where she had retired in January 2024 as a specialty nurse, concentrating in pediatrics. Taking care of patients as well as her own grandchildren, when they had appointments, was one of the many highlights of her career. Her kindness, compassion and the way she always put others first, was known to many and will always be remembered by those she cared for.

On July 1, 1978, Susan married her husband Mark R. Hoover at the Annunciation Church in Ilion. They spent over 51 years sharing love, laughter and making many memories together. Mark and Susan loved to travel together, they collected many windchimes, seashells, and magnets on their adventures always stopping at a Buc-ee's or two along the way. They often enjoyed sitting on the deck watching the sunset together, at their camp on Lake Ontario. Susan also enjoyed shopping with her granddaughters Ava and Trin, tending to her flowers, and weekly casino trips with her sister Sandy.

She is survived by her beloved husband Mark, her cherished children and their loves; Chris and Christina Hoover, Amanda Lopez and Jeff Urtz, Jennifer and Brian Whiter, Matthew Hoover and Heather Rodriguez, her adored grandchildren; Kimberly, Jon, Makayla; AJ, Tyler, Evan, Ava; Trinity, Connor, Jackson, and her grand-pup, Teela. She also leaves her siblings; John and Jean Miller, Mike Miller, Sandy and Charles Moore, Karen and Harold Seelbach, her sister-in-law, Kathy Hoover, brother-in-Law, Herb and Regina Warren, her mother-in-law, Norma Warren as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her parents Arnold S. Miller and Mary E. Miller, brothers Mark, Ron, Arnold and Dennis Miller, sisters Barb Miller and Gloria Devereese and her sister-in-law, Mary Lou Miller.

Susan's family will receive guests on Sunday, September 13, 2026, from 1:30 P.M. to 3:30 P.M. at the Enea, Ciaccia Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road Ilion, NY 13357. A service of remembrance will take place at 3:30 P.M. officiated by Father Paul Catena. Following the service all are invited to a Memorial of Life at the Knights of Columbus, 74 West Main Street in Ilion at 5pm. 

The family would like to thank the Ilion Fire Department, Little Falls Hospital and Hospice and Palliative Care for the kindness and compassion shown to Susan during her final hours.
