SCHUYLER-ILION ? Shirley E. Rose, age 88, formerly of Schuyler, Ilion and Crescent City, Fla., died Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009, at Country Manor, Herkimer, where she was a recent resident. She was born on July 11, 1920, in Utica, the daughter of Harry and Hildegard (Bean) Eckler and attended Utica schools. In 1939, she was married to Francis Rose. He died on Dec. 5, 1979. Shirley enjoyed crocheting, knitting and loved being around her family. Survivors include her children, Harriette (Rose) Martin and husband Robert of Newton, Texas, Laurence Rose and wife Diana of Ilion, Norma Jeanne (Rose) Hart and husband Irvin of Barneveld, Marilyn (Rose) Mead of Seville, Fla.; grandchildren, Scott Martin, Sherry Christainsen, Jim Martin, Sandra Scott, Lee Rose, Christopher Rose, Laurie Murphy, Paul Rose, Karen Clark, Amy, John and Donald Hart, Mike Rose, Marsha Schlaepfer, Marie Dygert, Tracy and Ron Mead; her sister-in-law, Rachel Eckler of Herkimer; many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents, her brother, Edwin Eckler, her son, Terry Rose and infant daughter, Agnes. Friends and relatives are invited to attend Shirley?s memorial service on Thursday, Jan. 8, 2009, at 3 p.m. at Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, 102 West St., Ilion, with Father Anthony Barratt, pastor of the Church of the Annunciation, officiating. Spring burial will be in East Schuyler Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 2 to 3 p.m., prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to the Ilion Ambulance Fund. Donation envelopes are available at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, Ilion.
