HERKIMER-Mrs. Shirley Jean (McCarthy) LeFave, 84, passed away peacefully on April 9, 2012 at Faxton-St. Lukes Healthcare in New Hartford.



She was born in Middleville, NY on December 18, 1927, daughter of the late Archibald and Ruth (Shibley) McCarthy.



On November 18, 1945 she was united in marriage with Norman Leslie Lefave in Dolgeville. Their loving union of 62 years lasted until his passing on February 12, 2008. She ran farms around the area for many years with Les, finally settling in Herkimer. When not working on the farm she enjoyed her yard, always keeping an assortment of flowers, shrubs and trees around her property. Shirley was a proud supporter of charities; such as the Boys and Girls Clubs of America and the NYS Police Benevolent Association. She was a Gold Crown supporter of the VFW.



Survivors include: her sons: Leslie Jr. (Marcia), Patrick (Lori), Mark (Donna) and Mitch (Pam); her daughter Sue (Kevin); her grandchildren : Linda, Valerie, Michelle, Scott, Heather, Jamin, Jesse, Joel, Cristopher, Kaelixte, Madison, Cara, Mitchell, Nate, Courtney, Katelynn, Rachel, Damian, Mary Kate, Leslie, Julie and Kevin; her brothers Alfred and James; many nieces, nephews, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Besides her husband, Shirley was predeceased by her brothers Donald and John and her sisters Elizabeth and Dorothy.



Private services will be held at the convenience of the family at the Roberts & Enea Family Funeral Home, 3 Faville Ave., Dolgeville, NY 13329. There are no calling hours.



Shirleys family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to Cheryl Howe, a longtime friend of the family who was always there and to the doctors, nurses and staff of St. Lukes Hospital for the wonderful care and kindness shown to her during her stay and passing.
