Shane C. Buchanan, age 65, of Ilion and Frankfort, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday morning, December 18, 2022, at the MVHS St. Elizabeth Campus.
Born in Hamilton on October 30, 1957, Shane was the son of the late Ralph G. and Janet I. (Rice) Buchanan. He was raised and educated in locally, graduating from Waterville High School.
On March 1, 1980, Shane was wed to the former Susan E. Vaughan in Sangerfield, NY. Together they spent thirty-nine years of marriage until Susan’s untimely passing on March 13, 2019.
For over twenty-three years, Shane was employed with Hamilton College as a custodian. Currently, he was employed with Birnie Bus Service in Utica where he has worked for the last nine years as a school bus driver.
In his spare time, Shane enjoyed being outdoors where he would hunt, fish and camp. His greatest joys were his grandchildren and he any time spent with them made him the happiest man.
Shane is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Shannon and Richard Lawlor; his son and daughter-in-law, Ryan and Cassandra Buchanan; his grandchildren, Richard Lawlor, III, Malachi Buchanan, Brody Gonyea and David Buchanan; with one new granddaughter on the way, Miranda Sue.
He also leaves his sisters, Sherry (Ken) Slocum and Susan (Roger) Laliberte; his brothers, Darin Buchanan, Devon Buchanan and Aaron Buchanan; along with numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family and friends.
There will be no formal funeral services at this time. Shane’s final wishes have been entrusted to the Enea, Ciaccia and Applegate Funeral Directors. Online notes of sympathy may be left at www.eneafamily.com .
