Sean A. Lewis

August 13, 1964 — November 20, 2025

Utica

Sean A. Lewis age 61, of Utica, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, November 20th, 2025.

On August 13, 1964, Sean Andrew Lewis was born, to Robert and June Lewis. He grew up in North Utica and so loved to visit his grandparents in Sauquoit. These were times when he played outside throwing rocks in the creek and swinging in the hammock, and of course a little mischief in grandpa’s garden as any little boy would do.

As he grew up, he found music was a place to pour his energy into. So, a drum set followed, which became his constant practice and pleasure. He was constantly working on “his beat.” His memory was amazing, and he could recite countless theme songs, the “Odd Couple “was a favorite. He was fascinated by the stars and galaxies, learning their names and looking at them. He always wanted a telescope and the “perfect place to have it.” Not only did he have a great love for the stars, he also had a love for the ocean. He always looked forward to Virginia Beach vacations and just watching the waves.

He was a solitary person but cared very much for his family and a few good friends, David Paratore was a long-time companion and friend, which he was always ready to mention with a smile, my friend “Davey.” Sean never carried a grudge, for that matter he refused to speak badly of anyone. He was known to say “hey, they did the best he could.” Truly, words to live by. For a person who had so little in a material way, he was one of the most generous people to anyone he cared about. He believed there was more happiness in giving. Sean was an “old soul” in many ways, but especially in his love of the big band era which he would never tire talking about. We have fond memories of him and his brother-in-law Nick Bonavita sharing their favorite band leaders and drummers. That is when he lit up!

Sadly, his health issues were not patient, and to our deep sadness they took his life unexpectedly. Quiet now are his drums, his love of jazz, and Abbott and Costello tv shows which always made him laugh. He leaves his mother, June Lewis, two sisters, Deborah Bonavita and Rebecca Siek, his brother Ryan and sister-in-law Rita and his brother Damon and sister-in-law Lisa, as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was confident in the Bible’s promise of paradise restored on earth, and he spoke so often to see his brother Dan and his father again in the promised land. No written word can describe our sadness, if only you could keep a beat for us one more time . We all love you and will carry that love until we see you again.

Revelation 21:3-4.
