ST. JOHNSVILLE - Sarah Tompkins (Vaccaro) was born June 16, 1962, at Bellview Hospital, in New York City. Sarah faced her leukemia with incredible strength and resilience. She fought a courageous battle until she took her last breath with her loving family by her side, on December 13, 2024.
Sarah spent her early life growing up in Brooklyn. She cherished her memories of going to summer camp, where she fell in love with the outdoors. She was an avid softball player and skilled diver for her school Swim Team. Sarah had a love and appreciation for all music, which began when she learned to play the violin as a young girl and extended to watching her son performing. She was a 1980 graduate of James Madison High-School in Brooklyn.
She was dedicated to the medical field but had many different career ventures throughout her life. Sarah was a loving and caring person and had a passion for helping people, which she passed down to her daughter.
Sarah was an avid sports spectator and loved to watch football and Baseball games, past and present. Her favorite teams were the Buffalo Bills, Dallas Cowboys (depending on which child’s house she was at) and the NY Mets. More than anything though, she loved to watch her grandkids play their favorite sports. In her down time, she enjoyed watching movies and especially loved her reality TV shows. Sarah had a special love for animals, especially all her furry feathered grand babies.
She is survived by her daughter, Jamie and husband, James Schulze, of Ilion; her son, Silas and wife, Sara Tompkins, of St Johnsville; her two brothers, Leonard and Charles Vaccaro; her Cherished grandchildren, Lily, Baylie, Keegan, Clayton and Mckenna; along with many special extended family members and friends.
She was predeceased by her parents, Vito and Anne Vaccaro; along with her son, Christopher Thomas Tompkins.
Sarah will always be remembered as a devoted mother and grandmother. She touched many lives and left an imprint on many hearts. She will be deeply missed.
The family would like to acknowledge the great care that she had received from her teams at Wilmont Cancer Center, ICU at Strong Memorial, and a very special thank you to Bassett Oncology in Herkimer.
In lieu of flowers the family is asking that donations be made to the Leukemia Research Foundation, or ASPCA as these organizations held a special place in her heart.
Family and friends are invited to attend her calling hours on December 21, 2024, from 12pm until 2pm, at the Enea & Ciaccia Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Rd, Ilion, NY 13357.
