Samuel N. DeThomas, 82 of St. Johnsville passed away on Monday February 18, 2008 at the St. Johnsville Nursing Home. He was born March 6, 1925 in the Bronx, NY the son of the late Frank & Elvira (Nardiello) DeThomas and was educated in Bronx schools. Mr. DeThomas moved to the St. Johnsville area in 1998. Sam was married to the late Joan Basel in the Bronx in 1952. Mr. DeThomas was a World War II Army veteran, enlisting on June 24, 1943 and was honorably discharged on February 6, 1946 with the rank of Private First Class. Sam was last employed for the New York City Housing Authority in the Bronx. He was a member of St. Brendon?s Church in the Bronx, and was a member of the Fort Plain VFW, Fort Plain American Legion, the Oppenheim Sprite Club, the Canajoharie Eagles Club and the Surf & Stream Club in the Bronx. Survivors include four sons, Clifford DeThomas and wife Donna of Dolgeville, Steven DeThomas of St. Johnsville, Russell DeThomas of Long Island and Richard DeThomas of Manhattan, two daughters, Stephanie DeThomas and friend Nancy Heaton of New Milford, Conn., and Jean Marie Ostriecher and husband Herman of New Milford, Conn., two brothers, Ralph DeThomas and wife Audrey of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Vince DeThomas of Westchester County, NY, a sister, Antoinette Scholl and husband Ken of Las Vegas, Nevada, nine grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews & cousins. Friends and relatives may call at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 9 Center St., St. Johnsville, NY, on Thursday February 21, 2008 from 4-7 pm. Visitation will be held at Ballard ? Durand Funeral Home, 2 Maple Ave., White Plains, NY, on Friday February 22, 2008 from 5-8 pm. Burial will be in Greenwood Union Cemetery in Rye, NY on Saturday February 23, 2008 at 10:00 am. All memorial contributions may be made to S.A.V.A.C. or the St. Johnsville Volunteer Fire Department.
