Rosemary Brown

April 10, 1928 — October 29, 2025

Mohawk

Mrs. Rosemary Brown, age 97, beloved matriarch of the Brown family, passed away peacefully, in her sleep, on October 29, 2025, in the privacy and comfort of her home.

Born in Utica on April 10, 1928, Rosemary was the daughter of the late Frank D. and Mary Catherine (McManus) Williams. She was raised on North Street in Mohawk, where she had a wonderful childhood and was educated in Mohawk Schools, graduating with the Class of 1946. Throughout these years she played in the high school band and was on the cheerleading team. After high school, she went on to further her education at SUNY Brockport.

On October 15, 1949, Rosemary married the love of her life, Robert F. Brown. Together they shared 40 wonderful years of marriage and built a beautiful family filled with love and laughter. A devoted wife and mother, she took great joy and pride in caring for her family and making her home a place of warmth and love. Robert preceded her in death after four decades together, but their bond remains strong in the hearts of all who loved them.

Rosemary’s gentle kindness and joyful outlook touched everyone she met. A woman of faith, she taught Sunday School for many years, sharing her love of God and her gift of bringing stories to life. She was renowned for her positivity and fun-loving nature, and was a true music lover, She was often found singing, dancing and putting on one of her famous puppet shows!

Rosemary will be remembered for her outgoing spirit and love of life. She cherished traveling and spending summers on Raquette Lake, where she made countless memories with family and friends. Whether she was snowmobiling through the winter trails, bowling on league nights, or enjoying a trip to the casino, she made every moment special. She was a friend to all and never spoke unkindly of anyone. Her wisdom, kindness and compassion will forever be remembered by those she leaves behind.

Rosemary is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, Robert D. Brown and James J. Brown and his wife, Janet, all of Mohawk. Forever in her heart was the memory of her beloved son, Jeffrey L. Brown, who passed away on November 6, 2018. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Karlee Davis, Hayley Brown, Michael Brown, Matthew Brown, Sydney Brown, Daniel Brown and Robert Brown; and several great-grandchildren.

The family is deeply grateful for her dear friends, John and Jeanne Slopnick, Sharon Riesel-Oldfield and Dolores “Dee” Dawidowicz, for all their love and kindness over the years.
