MOHAWK – Rose Mary Kane, age 98, formerly of Warren Rd., Mohawk, passed away peacefully in her sleep, on Thursday, February 15, 2024, at 2:30 am at the Masonic Care Community, in Utica, NY.
She was born on January 16, 1926, in Ilion, the daughter of Glenn and Bertha (McCarthy) Shedd. Rose Mary was a graduate of Mohawk High School, class of 1943. She was a bookkeeper for Pachman Auto, retiring in 1995. On July 4, 1946, she was united in Marriage, to Morris J. Kane, a union of 55 years, ending with Morris Kane’s passing, on August 2, 2001.
Rose Mary Kane was a former member of the Catholic Daughters, Court St. Bridget, a life long member of the Blessed Sacrament Parish, where she served as a Lector. She was the first chairperson of the Fall Festival, an officer in the former Rosary Society and a participant in all Parish activities. She was a charter member of the Piecemakers Quilt Guild, as well as a charter member of the Tuesday Sew ‘n Sews, a transporter for Catholic Charities and volunteered for many years for Meals on Wheels. Sewing was her passion and she made many quilts and Christmas stockings for her children and extended family members, as well as walker bags and Lap robes for local nursing homes.
Rose Mary is survived by her three sons, Paul (Elke) Kane of Clifton Park, NY, Steven Kane, Mesa AZ, and Greg Kane, Lawrenceville, GA. and two Daughters; Melissa (Dave) Robson, The Villages, FL and Christine (Jim) Arnitz of Clyde NY, a daughter-in-law Rosalie Kane, Jacksonville FL.
She leaves behind grandchildren; Mark II (Donna) Kane, Jessica (Frank) Cachiola, Jennifer Kane, Samantha Kane, Allison (Kris) Kartarski, Andrew (Elizabeth) Kane, Amy (Tony) Larson, Michael (Shelly) Arnitz, Alecia (Josh) Young, Michael (Sarah) Hall, Chance Kane, and Rafaela Kane.
She leaves behind great-grandchildren; Georgia Grace Kane, Michael Kane, Trista Miller, Maceo and Lorenzo Cachiola, Matthew and Alexander Larson, Stella Kartarski and Brooklyn and Jameson Hall; Ava, Mia, Zoa, and Ty Young, Chloe and Lucy Harris, Audrey and Evelyn Arnitz and two special nephews Michael and Matthew Shedd, Mohawk, NY., several nieces and nephews of the Shedd, Watson, Kane and DeCoursey families.
She was predeceased in death by her husband Morris Kane, a son Mark Kane I, a grandson, Christopher Kane, a granddaughter, Jennifer Kane, her two brothers and their wives, Leon and Doris Shedd, Alan and Betty Shedd, her two sisters and their husbands, Estelle and William DeCoursey, Anne and Lewis Watson, her brother-in-law, George and her sisters-in-laws Helen Davidson, Catherine O’Bryan, Vickie Kane, Barbara Chase and Lois Thompson.
In keeping with Rose Mary’s wishes, there are no scheduled calling hours. Later this spring, of 2024, a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated, at Blessed Sacrament Church, E. Main St., Mohawk, followed by interment at Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer, on her family lot, with her husband, Morris.
