ROCKWOOD – Mr. Robert Thomas, age 68, left us all very sad as he passed away, on Thursday morning, November 21, 2024, at Albany Medical Center. This wonderful man spent his last several days surrounded by the love of his Lexington family. Our heartfelt sympathy and immeasurable gratitude go to all who loved and supported our beautiful Robert.
Robert was born on July 27, 1956. On March 25, 1991, Robert moved to a brand-new home on Sweet Hill Road, the first true home he had since childhood. We can only imagine what the past 33 years of his life have been like and all the love and joy he experienced over the years. Robert started attending the day program at Gloversville before Oppenheim Day Hab opened. He loved his new home, which was most likely the first time he lived in the country. In 2001, Robert moved to his new home in Rockwood and remained with his family, who were like brothers. They all attended a program, at the Pine Hills Day Hab. He loved the day program, especially helping to keep his program clean and looking nice. Robert was a big help to his community, helping to deliver Meals on Wheels and assisting the local animal shelter. Robert loved to dine and go to everyone’s local favorite, “Stewart’s.” He enjoyed being out in nature, liking to go for walks, picnics, fishing and camping.
For those who did not know Robert, he was a very handsome man with an amazing smile. He looked nice no matter what he wore, as he was blessed with such good looks. However, he was very particular and knew what he looked and felt best in. He enjoyed shopping for clothes and going to the barber. He had beautiful dark hair with a smidge of gray in it, adding a distinguished look to an already dapper man.
Robert was a fantastic man, rather an icon. He was a beautiful human who brought so much love and gratitude to all who have had the privilege of knowing him. Those of us who knew him through the past 33 years can share some beautiful memories and a few challenging moments. Robert was in better shape than many of us over the years and had an energy level in his younger years that we could have only hoped to have. May our handsome friend rest in peace.
