Robert A. "Bob" Sportello Sr., 57, of 360 Protection Ave., Herkimer, passed away Tuesday, February 17, 2004, at Little Falls Hospital. He was born Jan. 20, 1947, in Ilion, the son of Roberta (Smith) Sportello and the late Louis Sportello Sr., and was educated in Frankfort schools. Mr. Sportello was a United States Air Force veteran, enlisting on June 30, 1965, and was honorably discharged. Bob was last employed at Rudy's Men Shop in Herkimer. With family as his foremost priority, he proved himself a loving and caring father and grandfather, and enjoyed his time spent with his friends at the Empire Diner. In his leisure, he enjoyed music and sang in the band, "Lookin' Back." Survivors include his mother, Roberta; a son, Robert A. Sportello Jr. and friend Rebecca Clapper of Mohawk; a daughter, Tabitha Green and husband Anthony of Ilion; two brothers, Louis Sportello and wife Veronica of Herkimer and Ernie Sportello and wife Theresa of Schuyler; a sister, Nancy Perritano and husband Anthony of Frankfort; two grandchildren, Adrianna Rose Sportello and Taylor Brooke Oliver; several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles, in-laws and many friends. He also leaves behind special friends, Rick and Chip DeJohn. He was predeceased by two daughters, Tammy and Melissa Sportello. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Feb. 19, at 6 p.m. from the Enea Family Funeral Home, Main Street between Ilion and Frankfort, 894-8000. Spring burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frankfort. Friends and relatives may call at the funeral home on Thursday, Feb. 19, from 4 p.m. until the time of the services.
