Roben A. Gorthey

ILION – Roben A. Gorthey, age 69, passed away on Sunday, November 19, 2017, in the privacy and comfort of her home.

Born on August 20, 1948 in Rochester, NY, Roben was the daughter of the late Raimond and Wanda (Smith) Atwell. At one time, she was married to Mr. Durwood Gorthey, a relationship from which came her beloved children.

Roben was someone who truly loved people and for a number of years she worked as a coffee barista with Starbucks in Asheville, North Carolina. In her spare time she enjoyed writing, reading mystery novels, and crocheting. She was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

She had a deep connection with her children, whom she loved dearly and she especially adored her grandchildren. She was a generous, giving woman and homemaker, and her sweet demeanor will be truly missed by the family she leaves behind.

Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Aleshia and Kevin Dolab of Fairview, NC and Derinda and Tim Greif of Dolgeville; her son, Kyle Gorthey of Leonard, TX; her six grandchildren, Hannah, Elijah, Bethany, Jamin, Lydia and Grace; her sisters, Sue and Mike Blackwell of Rochester and Denien Gray of Ralston, NE; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Rennie Atwell.

Roben’s earthly remains will be laid to rest at Church Street Cemetery at the convenience of her family.
