WEST WINFIELD – Ricky Duane Merwin, 71, of the Village of West Winfield, passed away unexpectedly, on Monday, January 22, 2024.
Rick was born Aug. 7, 1952, in Walton, NY, to Jeannette (Puffer) Merwin and Glenn “Bus” Merwin. He was a graduate of the West Winfield High School and then went to work at the Union Fork and Hoe for 35 years, until they closed their doors. Then he went on to work at Remington Arms and retired from there a few years ago.
Rick is survived by his sister, Joyce (Jon) Rupnik, of Mt. Pleasant, PA; his brothers, Ronald Merwin (Debbie Donahue), of Ilion, NY and Roger (Joyce) Merwin, of West Winfield, NY; and several nieces and nephews.
Rick was predeceased by his Mother, (Jeannette); his Father, (Glenn); his nephew, Roger Merwin, Jr.; and sister-in-law, Sandra Merwin.
Rick was an amazing bowler earning many trophies and plaques for his several 300 games and 700 (plus) series. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed every minute he could in the summer teeing off with his friends. In his younger years, Rick enjoyed playing the game of softball throughout the Mohawk Valley on different leagues.
Rick was known for his wonderful sense of humor and his quick, dry wit. He was an all-around wonderful guy and will be missed so much by his family and friends. Many thanks to his Mirabito/Subway “family” for their friendship, kindness and keeping him company over the years. A special thanks to all his friends “buddies” for their car rides, company, and conversations that he enjoyed and looked forward to. You can BET he is up there teeing off for a “birdie” or throwing that ball down the alley for a strike.
There will be no calling hours or Funeral Services at this time. There will be a Celebration of Life in the spring, for family and friends to gather and celebrate Ricky’s life.
Ricky’s funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Enea & Ciaccia Family Funeral Home, Ilion, New York, Enea, Ciaccia & Applegate, Funeral Directors.
