Phyllis B. Smith, 70, a longtime Dolgeville resident, passed away on Sunday March 16, 2008 at Little Falls Hospital. She was born December 16, 1937 in Stratford, NY the daughter of the late Harold and Alice (Daley) Burris. Phyllis was salutatorian of Stratford High School, graduating in 1956. She furthered her education at Plattsburgh State College, graduating 1960, with a degree in school nursing and teaching. Her marriage to Dale Smith took place on July 3, 1971 at the Stratford United Methodist Church. In the early 1970?s Phyllis was active in the Reserves and held the rank of Captain. Mrs. Smith was last employed at Van Allen Nursing Home in Little Falls where she was a Registered Nurse. At one time she worked as a school nurse and teacher at Stratford schools, through a program at BOCES. Survivors include her beloved husband of 36 years Dale of Dolgeville, her loving daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer McGowan and husband Mark of Dolgeville, two cherished grandchildren, Adrianna and Mark McGowan, Jr., two sisters, Patricia Young and husband Walter of Stratford, and Joyce Ploss and husband Richard of Oppenheim, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Funeral services will be held on Thursday March 20, 2008 at 11:00 am from the Roberts and Enea Family Funeral Home, 3 Faville Ave., Dolgeville, NY. Spring burial will be in Dolgeville Cemetery. Friends and relatives may call at the funeral home on Wednesday March 19, 2008 from 6-8 pm. In lieu of flowers, please make all memorial contributions to the American Heart Association. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
