Phyllis Ann Izzo - Rozell

November 2, 1937 — December 17, 2023

Phyllis Ann Izzo Rozell passed away on December 17, 2023, at Hospice House in Sarasota, Florida surrounded by her loving daughters and husband. She had been a resident of Brookdale Memory Care for the past 6 months.

She was born on November 2, 1937, in Little Falls, NY and was preceded in death by her parents Arlene (Collis) and Warren Canorro. Phyllis was educated in the Little Falls Schools and in August, 1956 she married Mike Izzo and together they raised 4 children before retiring to Florida. On the same day that her youngest child went to kindergarten she enrolled in Cosmetology School in Utica and subsequently opened Phyl’s Beauty Shop which she operated for 23 years.

During her time in Little Falls she served on the Board of Education during the tumultuous times of the 1970s. Both she and Mike were strong proponents of community involvement and were actively involved in local politics. Phyllis loved gardening, playing cards and was often cooking a pot of mushroom stew to feed the dozens of friends of her children while they enjoyed their backyard pool.

While in Florida she continued her passion of gardening where she spent years trying to (unsuccessfully) master the perfect Florida tomato. Mike passed away suddenly in 1997 but she stayed in Florida to be near her daughters and to help babysit her young grandchildren. In 2001 she married Frank Rozell and they were involved in their local community and social organizations. She took up a love of golf, which she shared with Frank, until she injured her back. She loved their home on the lake and followed the plight of the local birds and frequent alligators.

She is survived by her husband, Frank; her children, Debra (Charles) of Illinois, Cynthia Unzicker and Rebecca Dakin of Florida and Michael (Kathleen) Izzo of Little Falls. Her pride and joy were her 8 grandchildren; Anna (Erick) Vigil and Jonathon Trout, Matthew (Jennifer) and Michael Unzicker, Courtney and Luke Dakin, and Cassandra and Michael (Emily) Izzo. She had 3 great-grandchildren, Colton Kruse and Evelyn and Elizabeth Vigil. Phyllis is also survived by her 2 brothers and sisters-in-law (that she considered sisters) Warren and Carol Canorro and Wayne and Mary Canorro. She is the last surviving member of her generation of the Izzo family and matriarch to 29 nieces and nephews. She has two step children, Gary (Mitzi) and Gale Rozell.
At this time a memorial date has not been set but a service will be held in the spring of 2024 with Phyllis’ ashes interred at St. Mary’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to Tidewell Hospice, 3550 S. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota, Florida 34239.

Final arrangements have been entrusted to the Enea Family Funeral Home, 24 West Monroe Street, Little Falls, NY (315) 823-2424, Enea, Ciaccia & Applegate Funeral Directors. Online notes of sympathy may be left at www.eneafamily.com .
