Philip H. Douglas

November 2, 1959 — December 28, 2025

Mohawk, NY

Philip Howard Douglas, age 66, of Mohawk, passed away unexpectedly from a heart attack on December 28th, 2025. He was known for his mechanical skill, love of building, and unassuming generous nature.

Philip was born in Buffalo on November 2nd, 1959. From a young age, Philip was fascinated by how things worked and spent his life building, fixing, and understanding the world around him. A highly skilled welder with extensive mechanical experience, he could fix almost anything from engines to electrical wiring and plumbing. He served as Foreman running the printing press at the Evening Telegram and took great pride in his work.

Philip loved building things, including a custom designed mobile workshop on top of a flatbed trailer and a large garage constructed mostly by his own hands. He was known for his directness, quick humor—often self-deprecating—and his willingness to help anyone in need. He was compassionate, nonjudgmental, protective of those he loved, and had a special affection for animals.

Music was an important creative outlet for him. He enjoyed playing the keyboard, experimenting with synthesizers, and listening to rock music. He loved the outdoors and spent many cherished years in his childhood at his grandparents’ camp in the Adirondacks, working in the woods and at the sawmill alongside his grandfather. Re-building that sawmill remained an aspiration of his.

He survived a serious snowmobile accident and traumatic brain injury in 1993, which had a major impact on his health but never changed who he was at heart. He enjoyed physical labor, working outdoors, spending time with his brothers and friends, and sharing laughs over a beer.

Philip is predeceased by his step-father and mother, Salvatore and Marlene Guido, and his grandparents, Howard and Sylvia Rogers. He is the brother of Robert and the late Charlotte Guido, the late Ruth and Orbano LaPorte, Salvatore and Rita Guido, Daniel and Pam Guido, Linda and the late Stephen Crocker and Steven and Dina Guido, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Philip will be remembered for his unassuming kindness, humor, and unwavering support for others. He will be deeply missed.

A service will be held at a later date, with interment at Mohawk Cemetery, at a date to be announced in the spring.

Philips arrangements have been entrusted to the Enea Ciaccia Applegate Funeral Directors.
