MOHAWK – Mr. Peter P. Roskowski, age 90, entered into eternal rest, surrounded by his daughter, Dorothy and “Amigo” Joe, on August 13, 2024. We will always affectionately remember him as Dad, Buddy and Uncle Pete.
He was born on January 8, 1934, in Hempstead, Long Island, a son of the late Stanley and Philomena Puzefski Roskowski. He was raised in Hempstead and educated there in public schools, a graduate of Hempstead High School, ‘Class of 1949.’ He went on to attend Adelphi University in Garden City. On October 31, 1951, he married Dorothy Mitchell, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. In 1969, they moved from Bayport, Long Island, to Mohawk, where they owned and operated the R & S Highland Dairy Farm. Mrs. Roskowski, his beloved wife of 53 years, passed away on December 3, 2003.
Mr. Roskowski enjoyed working on the family farm with his wife and their family. Through the years, he had worked at Republic Aviation, in Farmingdale, New York and lastly as a letter carrier for the Herkimer Post Office, retiring around the year 2000. We have fond memories of Pete Bragging, “I have been on every porch in the Village of Herkimer!”
Surviving is his daughter, Dorothy Marie Roskowski and her partner, Joe Usuga; Thomas Roskowski (Son) and his wife, Debra and family, of Rochester, New York; his five nieces, Theresa and Jerry Caramanica, Patricia and Steve Lineman and family, and Janice and Jim Maddox and family, all of Georgia, Rosann Smith and Lucille, of Vallejo, California; one great-niece, Jennifer and Ron Zito and family, of Georgia; his childhood friend, Joan Murphy, of Bayport, Long Island, and (daughter), Elaine Burger, of Brooksville, Florida; as well as several nieces and nephews, and too many good friends to name, all wonderful people that we dearly love. Dad also leaves his three furry buddies, Lucky, Soshe and Cassie.
Besides his parents, and his wife, Dorothy, he was predeceased by his sisters, Bridgett (Adolph, brother-in-law), and Felicia (Infant); a brother, Stanley Roskowski; a great-nephew, Jason Maddox; and his dear friend, Stephanie Anne Guiney.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 23, 2024, at 10:00 a.m., at Blessed Sacrament Church, 71 East Main Street, Mohawk, New York, with interment to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Town of Herkimer, where Peter and Dorothy shall be laid to rest. There are no calling hours.
