Peter M. Deluca

November 19, 1941 — December 1, 2023

LITTLE FALLS - Peter M. DeLuca, (Sarge, Poppy), passed away December 1, 2023, at the age of 82, with his family by his side. He was born November 19, 1941, to Joseph and Alice (Adsit) DeLuca, in Dolgeville, NY.

He was a graduate of Dolgeville Central School, Class of 1960. He enlisted in the Army immediately after graduation, where he served from 1960-1963, then transferred to the Army Reserve from 1963-1995. He joined the Little Falls Police Department in 1966, retiring as a Sergeant in 2001. During his time on the police force, he also served as a call fireman, from 1974 to 1987, for LFFD.

Peter met the love of his life, Nancy (Crews) DeLuca, in 1979. They married on December 22, 1984, spending 44 years at each other's side. Peter proudly served his community for many years, training many officers who grew fond of him. There is always a story to be told or a nickname to be shared by his fellow brothers in blue that would make you laugh. To many, he was a legend of his time!

He loved to cook and reminisce about his many adventures throughout his life, whether it be the trips he took, stories on the job, or moments with family. He especially loved to bust on his little brother Gregg and enjoyed his time spent with his daughter and grandkids. He took great pride in his family and was always there for any one of them when needed. He was best known for his quick-witted humor and reputation as a tough and knowledgeable police officer.

He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy; his stepchildren, Tammy Seelbach (Tom Malley) and Troy (Shari) Rackmyer; his grandchildren, Natasha (Kevin) Paul, Dakota Stallman (Chris), Ryan Stallman (Chloe), Chandler Seelbach, Ireland Malley, Amanda (Dan) Bollen and Taryn (Chester) Rackmyer; his brothers, Gregg (Sue) DeLuca and Joseph DeLuca; his several great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews; his sister and brothers-in-law, Howard (Rose ) Crews, Mark (Donna) Crews, Diane (Jimmy) Spatto, Valerie (George) Gay, Debra (Jim) Victor, Cheryl (Matt) Liddon and Veronica (Kevin) Sullivan.

He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Alice DeLuca; his sisters, Pamela Doubleday and Patricia DeLuca; and his father-in-law, Clifford Crews.

In typical Peter D. fashion there are no services planned, certainly no pomp and circumstance, as he didn’t want anyone viewing him. A Celebration of Life will take place on January 7, 2024, at the Waterfront Grille, in Herkimer, from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., for those who would like to pay their respects and share some stories.

Peter’s arrangements have been entrusted to the Enea Family Funeral Home, Little Falls, NY (315) 823-2424), Enea, Ciaccia & Applegate Funeral Directors.
