Patricia "Patty Joan" Slaughter

At rest and in pain no more, Patricia Slaughter, aka "Patty Joan," 87 years old passed away peacefully at Valley Health Services Herkimer NY with family by her side on July 8,2025.

Born March 10, 1938, the oldest of 6 children, Patty was always taking care of her siblings when they were younger. They ran through creeks, hiked through woods, and pulled lots and lots of weeds from their huge garden. She attended school at Sauquoit Valley school district.

Patricia wed Roger Slaughter on March 28, 1964, and they lived on Roger's family dairy farm, with their two daughters in Litchfield, NY, until the farm was sold in 1989. She and Roger continued to live in Litchfield, NY, on a piece of farm property in a double wide home until 2012. From 2012 to 2020, Patty Joan lived in Holland Patent NY, near her daughter Dana.

A woman of faith and the biggest cheerleader for her daughters and granddaughters, Patty always put family first. She was known for her good cooking and baking skills, her huge garden, knitting and crocheting, playing her organ, and her love for music. She will be deeply missed by those who knew her.

She leaves behind two daughters and their husbands; Kimberly Cunningham (Pete), Dana Dornburgh (Brian); four granddaughters, Miranda Dornburgh, Kayana Cunningham, Anna Dornburgh, Ava Dornburgh; a sister Lila Washburn and a brother Brian Wilson, several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Patricia was predeceased by her husband of 48 years Roger Slaughter, her parents, Charles and Patricia Wilson, sister Sandra Gates, brother Kevin Wilson, and brother Charles Wilson.

Patty’s family would like to express their gratitude to Valley Health Services in Herkimer for their care and compassion during the past 5 years. She was very well taken care of at VHS, and Patricia got to know the staff personally.

There will be a graveside service for Patricia at the Cedarville Cemetery in Cedarville New York, on Monday, July 21st, 2025, at 1:00 followed by a Celebration of Life at the Litchfield Town Barn, Cedarville Rd Litchfield NY. In the event of rain there will be no graveside service, and everything will be conducted at the Litchfield Town Barn.

In keeping with Patricia's wishes, she had left instructions for people to wear blue to her memorial service representing the color of the sky and bluebirds!
