Mr. Orville ?Whitey? Ferguson 67 of 5765 State Hwy 29 RD St. Johnsville, owner operator of Whitey?s Variety Store in Lassellsville, died unexpectedly Tuesday October 21, 2008 at Nathan Littauer Hospital, Gloversville after being stricken at his home. Whitey as he was known was born in Albany, New York on January 5, 1941 the son of Eva Ferguson and was educated in Oppenheim schools. His marriage to the former Carol May took place on October 27, 1962 in St. Johnsville, New York. They would have celebrated 46 years of marriage next Monday. Whitey was first employed by the 7Up Bottling Company of Troy for 17 years, he then went to work for the Glenn Mohawk Dairy Company as a driver and also worked for the Mohawk Dairy Company as a driver. In 1987 he and his wife Carol opened ?Whitey?s Variety Store? in Lassellsville, where residents from all over, could find just what they needed. He was an active member of the RGL Volunteer Fire Department (Rockwood-Garoga & Lassellsville) and served as its? President. He was awarded Honorary Membership recently due to his health. Surviving him is his wife Carol, his sons Jeffrey A. Ferguson of RD St. Johnsville, Scott and his wife Haley Ferguson of Oppenheim, A Daughter Judith ?Judy? Ferguson of Rd St. Johnsville, his Grandchildren Brock and Mackenzie, a Brother in law Ernest Voorhees of Oppenheim, Nieces and Nephews, and his ?Furry Friend? Zoe?. Funeral services will be held Friday October 24th, 2008 at 11 AM at the Roberts & Enea Family Funeral Home 3 Faville Avenue Dolgeville. The Rev. Rebecca Laird, Pastor of the Oppenheim Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will follow in Rural Park cemetery, Inghams Mills. Calling hours are on Thursday from 4-7 PM at the funeral home. Members of the RGL Vol. Fire Department will meet and hold a service at 6:30PM at the funeral home on Thursday evening. In Lieu of flowers memorials in his name may be made to the RGL Vol. Fire Department. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
