MOHAWK - In loving memory of Orbano Anthony LaPorte, who passed away peacefully on January 24, 2025, with his children and niece by his side. Born on August 9, 1947, to Joseph and Rose LaPorte in Utica, NY, Orbano’s life was a testament to love, dedication, and passion. A graduate of Proctor High School, he went on to earn his associate and bachelor’s degrees from Herkimer County Community College and SUNY Polytechnic Institute, respectively.
Orbano was the heart of our family, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Preceded in death by his loving wife, Ruth Guido LaPorte, they were married on September 25, 1971, and together they shared 52 beautiful years of marriage. Their bond was marked by shared trips with their family, casino trips, and a deep love for family time. Orbano’s children, Amy (Craig) Schaffer, Jennifer (Greg) Polizotto, and James (Kate) LaPorte, along with his cherished grandchildren, Emily, Jack, Dominick, Sydney, and Olivia, were the pride and joy of his life. He also leaves behind his sister, Kathryn LaPorte, beloved niece Debra LaPorte-Jalonack, his brothers and sisters-in-law Robert (Charlotte), Salvatore (Rita), Daniel (Pam), and Steven (Dina) Guido, and many adored cousins, nieces and nephews.
A dedicated professional, Orbano retired as a Postmaster in Mohawk, NY, leaving a legacy of hard work and integrity. His passions brought vibrancy to his life: coaching youth sports, golfing, playing in adult softball leagues, collecting coins, and enjoying the excitement of horse racing. As a proud member of the United States Postmaster's Club, Board of Elections, Mohawk Valley Rotary Club, the New York Giants Touchdown Club, and the ELKS Club, Orbano’s warmth and camaraderie enriched the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Above all, Orbano’s legacy is one of love and kindness. His unwavering dedication to his family and ability to inspire others to be their best with his zest for life will forever remain in our hearts. His presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the lives he touched.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, February 14, 2025, at The Blessed Sacrament Church in Mohawk, NY. The interment will be private. Immediately following the Mass, a reception will be held at The Waterfront Grille, 800 Mohawk St., Herkimer, NY, 13350.
