ILION - Nina P. Whitmore, age 95, formerly of Ilion, passed away on Monday, August 23, 2010, at Marquis Place Assisted Living, in Elkhorn, Nebraska.
She was born on July 21, 1915, in Dolgeville, NY, the daughter of Homer and Ida (Perry) Plato, and graduated from Dolgeville High School. On June 29, 1942, she was married to Harry C. Whitmore in Hendersonville, North Carolina. He died in 1995. Nina owned and operated Whitmore's Yarns on Main St., in Ilion and Herkimer, for over twenty years, retiring in October of 1979.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and Michael Clifford, of Omaha, Nebraska; two grandchildren, Courtney Clifford, of Denver, Colorado, and Colin Clifford, of Omaha, Nebraska; her sister, Meta Mattison, of Massena, NY; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Howard and Edward Plato, and three sisters, Virginia Ploss, Alice Burton and Rosemond Seeley.
A private graveside service will be held at Armory Hill Cemetery, Ilion, at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours.
All arrangements were prearranged and entrusted to Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, Don Applegate, Funeral Director.
