Nicholas T. Todaro

Born in Brooklyn to the late Elizabeth Michelina (Benevento) Todaro and Frank Luciano Todaro; brother to Saverio Frank Todaro and Frank Joseph Todaro; later in life, husband, best friend and partner for eternity to Lillian Elizabeth (Mendola) Todaro; and shortly after that, father and hero to Frank Thomas Saverio Todaro.

For that is what he was. A hero. Not an obvious one. Not one with a chest covered in medals. Never seeking credit. But one who was kind because it was right. Quietly helping. Always helping.

That was the core of who he was, who he is and will always be. The world was made better and forever will be, through the acts, both great and small of Nick. Of Dad.

The smartest man in every room, never once needing to show off that fact...though perhaps offering a silent smile or well-timed quip. The most emotionally intelligent and compassionate in action, but never flaunting. Teacher, architect, contractor, builder. He built so much, in every meaning of the word.

A compassionate mentor and safe haven for family and strangers alike, able to empathize with all and inspire when needed, with an unparalleled sense of calm. Always calm. To the point of carrying his own cut off toes to the hospital at one point to be sewn back on, but that is another story.

That control made him able to assess a situation, and find the course towards the most “good” that could be done for the most people. We did not find out for years afterwards how, after 9/11, (which he was at the base of at the time, filled his van with strangers and got them as far as he could in the aftermath on that day), went back to the site over and over, volunteering his expertise as a structural engineer, and enduring hardships in order to help in ways we still don't know the full extent of. Just one small snapshot in the infinite volumes of what an unsung hero Nick was. 

But mostly to his son, of which everything good about is inherited from him...him and his “best friend” and loving wife, Lillian.

We invite our friends and family to come honor Nick’s life on Friday, September 4, 2026, from 2:00PM to 4:00PM at the Enea & Ciaccia Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, Town of Frankfort, Ilion, NY (315) 894-8000. His funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence at 4:00PM at the funeral home, immediately upon the conclusion of visitation, with Deacon Jim Bower officiating.

Final arrangements have been entrusted to the Enea, Ciaccia & Applegate funeral directors.
