LITTLE FALLS - Mrs. Neva F. (Di Cristina) Volo, age 104, passed away peacefully, with loving family at her side, early Monday morning, November 18, 2024, at the Foltsbrook Care Center, Herkimer, New York.
Born in Frankfort, New York, on March 13,1920, Neva was the daughter of the late Joseph and Josephine (Guarniere) Di Cristina. She was raised locally and received her education from Frankfort schools. On September 2, 1944, at St. Mary’s Church in Frankfort, Neva was wed to Mr. Leborde “Nebo” Volo and together they raised a family and shared in 49 years of marriage, until Nebo’s passing, on January 15, 1993.
Neva was a hardworking and independent woman who strived to provide the best for herself and for her family. At one time, she was employed with Little Frocks, the Little Falls dress factory, as well as several others, as a seamstress. In her free time, Neva kept busy taking care of her home. She was a gifted seamstress who enjoyed crocheting and knitting and was a renowned talent in the kitchen, always cooking and baking for those she loved, as they gathered around her table. Her pizza and cookies were second to none. Neva was always ready to lend a helping hand.
First and foremost, in her heart, however, was her family. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her everything and they will forever keep her memory and legacy close to them. Neva was devoted to her Catholic faith as a parishioner of Holy Family Parish Church, in Little Falls and instilled her faith and values in her cherished family. Her active dedication to the church Altar Rosary Society through the years is a wonderful memory.
She is survived by her beloved family: her son, Joseph Volo and his wife, “Ciss” (Carolyn), of Little Falls, her son, David Volo and his wife, Jackie, of Little Falls and her son, Michael Volo, who preceded her in death, on August 12, 2021, and his wife, Neva’s daughter-in-law, survives, “Dodie” (Christine) Volo, of Little Falls. Neva also leaves behind her grandchildren, Kevin Volo (Judy), of Little Falls, Christopher Volo (Jennifer), of Liverpool, Tina Volo and Jason Volo (Tonya), of Florida, Evan Pawluk, of Herkimer, Courtney Pawluk (Devin Verri), of Little Falls, Shannon Bunaji (Yacine), of Florida and Carl Scaparo (Susan Bell), of Little Falls. She is survived by numerous great-grandchildren; her sister, Florence Cardarelli, of Herkimer; her brother, Joseph Di Gristina, of Herkimer; her sister-in-law, Mary Di Christina of Frankfort; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides her parents, husband and son, Neva was predeceased by her sisters, Joanne DiSpirito and Rose Bellino; her brothers, Charles Di Gristina and Salvatore Di Christina; and several in-laws.
A very special thank you is extended to Neva's caregivers on the 3rd Floor of the Foltsbrook Care Center, for the care and compassion shown to Neva and her family throughout her stay there.
