ILION – Mrs. Naomi Kathrine Rossi, a longtime resident of Ilion, NY, passed away at the age of 82 surrounded by loving family on the evening of Tuesday November 29, 2016 at Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare, town of New Hartford, NY.
She was born on March 31, 1934 in Matsuyama City, Japan, a daughter to the late Kantaro and Kinue (Watanabe) Hamada and received her education there. On June 22, 1966 Naomi married Louis J. Rossi, Jr. in a civil service marriage in Tokyo, Japan. Then, on September 3, 1966 Naomi and Louis were married at Muronaki Catholic Church in Iwakuni, Japan, by Father Vincent Barba, a priest from Sicily. The couple have lived in Ilion, New York since 1968. Naomi had served as a waitress at the Prospect Hotel in Herkimer and worked with Univac. She was of the Catholic faith and was a member of the Ilion-Frankfort VFW Auxiliary.
Naomi adopted our entire family and culture and always greeted and hosted us with joy and humor. She enjoyed preparing food for the family as well as sewing and crocheting. She was just a beautiful seamstress with a memorable laugh and even learned to make amazing Italian cuisine, inclusive to linguini which was her favorite treat! She will be always remembered and dearly missed.
She is survived by her dedicated and devoted husband Louis; her sisters Chizuko Yokota and Kazuko Hamada and a brother Yoshinori Hamada all of Japan; a brother-in-law Frank Rossi; very special friends to Naomi and Louis: Mineko and James Cogar and Ceil Morton; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins both in the United States and Japan and one aunt. Her predeceased relatives are inclusive to her parents, Kantaro and Kinue, Father-In-Law, Louis J. Rossi, Sr., Brother-In-Law, Alex Rossi and Sister-In-Law, Martha Rossi.
Arrangements are under the supervision of Martin L. Ciaccia, and Harry and Kevin Enea, Funeral Directors of the Enea & Ciaccia Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, Town of Frankfort, Ilion, NY (315) 894-8000. Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 3, 2016, with Father Paul Catena, officiating. Calling hours will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Saturday, December 3, 2016. The Ilion/Frankfort VFW Auxiliary will gather for ritual at noon, Saturday, December 3, 2016 at the funeral home. Interment will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, December 5, 2016 at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.
