Mrs. Mildred Atkins, age 90, of Herkimer, widow of Howard Atkins, passed away on Tuesday morning, May 27, 2003 in Folts Homes, Herkimer where she had been residing. Mrs. Atkins was born on March 27, 1913 in Fairfield, NY a daughter of the late Charles and Gertrude (Olds) Miller and received her education in Ilion schools. She was a longtime Herkimer resident. On March 19, 1932 she was united in marriage with Howard Atkins in the Dolgeville United Methodist Church. Prior to Mr. Atkins passing on January 2, 2001, the couple enjoyed a blessed union of 68 years, one that was securely founded upon their mutual love, support and dedication, and one that brought them great joy and satisfaction. Mildred was able to achieve great success in her role as a wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother, envisioning and creating for her family a life filled with love and joy always possessing a positive attitude. She enjoyed the activities she took part in at the Folts Homes, was an avid reader and enjoyed music. A member of the Christ Episcopal Church, Herkimer she was sincerely and deeply devoted to religion and read the bible daily. She was a member of the Christ Episcopal Church Guild and a past president of the Altar Society. She leaves a beloved son, David Atkins and wife Loretta of Herkimer and a loving daughter, Mary Ellen Campagna and husband Robert of Ilion, eight cherished grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren, all of whom were very dear to Mildred's heart. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and inlaws. A brother, Charles Miller and a sister Doris Washburn preceded her in death. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects and visit with the family on Friday, May 30, 2003 from 5-8 p.m at the Holleran-Enea Funeral Home, 220 N. Washington St., Herkimer. Mildred's funeral will commence on Saturday, May 31, 2003 at 1:30 p.m. from the chapel of the funeral home where prayer will be offered and at 2p.m. from the Christ Episcopal Church, 300 N. Main St., Herkimer with the Rev. Paul Bailey, rector officiating. Funeral procession will follow to Mountain View Cemetery, town of Little Falls where Mildred will be laid to rest alongside her husband Howard.
