HERKIMER – Mr. Michael J. Scalise, age 75, of Herkimer, New York, passed away on Wednesday, April 29th, 2026, at Wynn Hospital after a series of illnesses.

Born in Herkimer on February 4th, 1951, Michael was the child of the late Joseph and Carrie (Caruso) Scalise. He was raised and educated in Herkimer & Frankfort, attended Frankfort High School, where he excelled in athletics.

On June 2nd, 1973, Mike wed his devoted wife Patricia Pettengill, and they were married for fifty-two years.

Michael was last employed at the Turning Stone Casino as a lead valet, which he enjoyed. Prior to that he managed the bowling alley at Thurston’s Restaurant for many years.

Michael had a deep love for his family and would go to great lengths to support and care for them. He cherished every opportunity to spend time together, creating lasting memories with those closest to him.

A devoted fan of the New York Yankees, Michael found great joy in watching their games and spent many of his final days doing just that. In previous years, Michael enjoyed frequenting the racetrack with his son and he also enjoyed fishing with his son-in-law and grandson.

Michael is survived by his devoted wife, Patrica (Pettengill), their two children, daughter, Amy (Shawn) Fields of Virginia, son, Aaron (Jennifer) Scalise of Oneida, and his beloved grandchildren, Tanisha Fields, D’Shawn Fields, Abigail (Robert) Hine, Harper Scalise & Nora Scalise, and his one great-grand daughter, Lemon Jackson.

He also leaves behind his siblings, Joseph Scalise, Ronald Scalise (Mamie), and Theresa Virkler (Richard), and his devoted brother-in-law, Joseph Tubia.

He is also survived by his siblings-in-law, Christine Pettengill, William (Deb) Pettengill, Susan (David) Knapp, Michele (Michael) Sweet & Michael (Be) Pettengill. He also leaves behind many special nieces and nephews.

Michael was also predeceased by his siblings, Sharon Tubia and Edward Scalise, and sister-in-law, Connie Scalise.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the Little Falls Hospital, Valley Health Services & Wynn Hospital staff for their excellent care.

The immediate family will receive relatives and friends for calling hours on Saturday, May 2nd, 2026, from 10:00 AM until 11:30 AM at The Enea Family Funeral Home at 220 North Washington Street, Herkimer New York, with a funeral prayer service immediately following at the funeral home.
