Melvin Kenneth "Mel" Cool, age 59, of Little Falls, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday evening, November 1, 2003 in his home following a lengthy illness. Mel had the reassurance, love, and support of his family at his side at the time of his passing. He was born on May 31, 1944 in Herkimer, a son of the late Chester Cool and Ella M. (Roland) Cool who resides in Mohawk and graduated from Herkimer High School. On September 16, 1967, Mel was united in Holy Matrimony with the former Teresa Restante in the United Methodist Church, Little Falls. A veteran of the U.S. Army, Melvin enlisted on April 4, 1967. Throughout his longtime affiliation with the Army and ever since, he was rightfully proud of his faithful and conscientious service to his country. He was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Mel was always proud of his country and the heroic service he provided. He was last employed with Remington Arms, Ilion. Mel compiled a successful record of loyal and conscientious service throughout his 40 years of work. He was a member of the Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Little Falls. He was four time past commander of Staff Sgt. Steve Stefula V.F.W. Post #4612, member of the Little Falls American Legion Post #31, Decarlo Staffo Post #8, Disabled American Veterans and the Vietnams Veterans of America (VVA). Melvin was an exemplary role model as he fulfilled the various roles within and beyond his family circle. He leaves his loving wife, Teresa, at home, his mother, Ella Cool of Mohawk, two sons, Scott Cool and wife Kimberly of Herkimer, Ryan Cool and wife Michelle of Bowie, MD., a brother Fred Cool and wife Donna of Herkimer, two beloved grandchildren, Jordan and Quentin Cool, a special sister in law, Paulette Restante, brother in law, Edward Restante and wife Cheryl of California, several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Also surviving are many wonderful friends. He was preceded in death by a son, Kevin Michael Cool. Visitation at the Enea Family Funeral Home, Main Street between Frankfort and Ilion, (894-8000) will be on Monday (today), Nov. 3, 2003 from 4-8 p.m. Mel's funeral from the chapel of the funeral home will commence at 10 am on Tuesday morn., Nov. 4, 2003 where prayer will be offered and at 11 am from Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Albany St., Little Falls where a Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated by the Rev. Dr. Steven A. Scarcia, rector. Procession will follow to Church Street Cemetery, Little Falls where he will be laid to rest. Full military honors will be accorded by the United States Army. The family offers its sincere thanks to everyone that showed concern and care for Mel during his illness and for the unlimited devotion provided to the family.
