Matthew L. Ainslie

Mr. Matthew L. Ainslie, age 43, of Schenectady, NY, passed away unexpectedly at Albany Medical Center on Friday, October 23, 2026.

Matthew was the son of Charles and Denise (Woods) Ainslie, he was born in Brunswick, ME on October 16, 1983. Matthew was a social butterfly; he always lit up a room with his smile. He loved to stay busy and was always willing to lend a helping hand to his friends or family.

Matthew was a great friend to the people he lived with at his home on Pine Ridge Road, as well as the caretakers he befriended during his time living there. He enjoyed staying active and participating in many events, especially, the Special Olympics. He was a dedicated Green Bay Packers fan who adored football, and watching the games with his family. He also greatly enjoyed puzzle books and coloring. His days were often sweetened by his love for peanut butter and a nice cup of coffee. Matthew could never say goodbye without giving you the best hug.

He is survived by his parents, Charles and Denise Ainslie; his sister, Heather Bormann, who he shared a special closeness with, and her husband, Robert; many aunts and uncles, Bruce Woods and his partner, Evelyn, Cheryl Woods, Barbara Pangman and her husband, Paul, Ken Ainslie and his wife, Cheryl, Janette Lyons and her husband, David, Michael Ainslie, and Eileen Ainslie. He also leaves his nieces and nephews, Samantha, Logan, who he shared a special bond with, Anjelica, Robert Jr., and Marie and her family, as well as many cousins and his friends at OPWDD.

Matthew was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Lavern and Vera Ainslie; his maternal grandparents, Ronald and Helen Woods; his aunt, Roxanne Williams; and his uncle, Kevin Woods.

Relatives and friends are invited to a celebration of Matthews life on Saturday, November 14, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at the New Life Church & Ministry, 337 Protection Ave. Herkimer, NY 13350. His family welcomes all to attend and asks that you may consider bringing a dish to share. A graveside service will take place on Tuesday, November 17, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Fly Creek Valley Cemetery, where Matthew will be laid to rest.
