Mary D. Marley

May 21, 1931 — January 22, 2025

ILION – Mrs. Mary D. Marley, age 93, a lifelong Mohawk Valley resident, passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, January 22, 2025, at the Masonic Care Community of CNY, where she has resided since September of 2023. Her passing occurred in the privacy and comfort of her bed with her beloved family at her side.

Born in Herkimer on May 21, 1931, Mary was the daughter of the late William and Ann (Miller) Daly. She was raised and educated locally, graduating from Herkimer High School and continuing her education at the Utica School of Commerce.

On July 4, 1953, Mary was wed to Francis A. Marley at St. Francis de Sales Church in Herkimer. Together, Mary and Frank spent a blessed and devoted union of over 52 years, until Frank’s passing on February 3, 2006. A piece of Mary’s heart went with him that day and their family takes comfort in knowing the two are reunited in Heaven.

In her early years, Mary’s primary focus was on her role as wife and mother to her three children. She also contributed to the household through her work with Oneida National as a Teller and with NY Telephone where she worked as an operator.

Mary was a private woman whose life was centered around her beloved family. As her children grew and had families of their own, she was brought immense joy by her grandchildren and then great-grandchildren. She was happiest when surrounded by the ones she loved. As a woman of faith, Mary held true to her Catholic traditions and was a longtime parishioner of the Church of the Annunciation in Ilion. She was also very proud of her volunteer work and dedication through the years with the Herkimer County Historical Society.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Mary Kate and James LaPaglia of Deerfield; her sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph and Giuseppina Marley of Rochester and Dr. David and Dr. Elizabeth Marley of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; her grandchildren, James LaPaglia, Alyssa and Ryan Estrella, Kathryn LaPaglia, Dustin Marley, Melina and David Sperry, Mat and Margaret Marley, Mace Marley, and Logan Marley; and her great-grandchildren, Giavonna, Aaron, Liliana, Joshua, Aubrey Jo, and one on the way.

She also leaves her sister and brother-in-law, Joan and Joseph Durkin; her niece, Beth White, husband, Dave, and children, Kathryn and Patrick; her nephew, Bill Durkin and Agatha; along with many other nieces, nephews, extended family members and close friends.

An overwhelming ode of gratitude is extended to the caregivers and staff of the Masonic Care Community of CNY, with special mention of the Troy and Albany Households, for the impeccable and compassionate care shown to Mary and her family.
