Martin J. Smith

d. January 21, 2023

MOHAWK - Martin J. Smith, 61, of Mohawk, passed away peacefully, at home, on January 21, 2023, with his loving family by his side. It is with great sorrow that we announce Marty's passing. After being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2018, he courageously explored every option and fought through every treatment with extraordinary strength and dignity.

Marty is survived by his loving wife Joan. They were joined in marriage in 1987. Born in Little Falls, NY, on May 9, 1961, Marty was the youngest son of Gordon and Claire Smith, of Jordanville.

Marty is also survived by his siblings: Christine (Gene) Corrigan, of Richfield Springs, Peter (Susan), of Delmar, Jay (Kathy), of Jordanville, John (Becky), of West Sand Lake, Moira (Lance) Yardley, of Oneida and Mary Ellen (Henry) Donohue, of Jordanville; brother-in-law, Patrick (Missy) Powers, of Poland; sisters-in-law, Shirley (Rob) Hollenbeck, of Barneveld and Lori Powers, of Newport.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by Mary and Peter Powers, Joan's parents; Joan's sisters, Linda Benton, of California and Carol Benton, of Cold Brook. In addition, Marty is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins who loved him dearly. We all hold many cherished memories of the fun times with Marty. It wasn't a party without Marty.

Marty was the Facility Manager of Global, Inc., of Jordanville. He also worked for many years at Campione Water, Curtains and Fabrics and MDS, of Herkimer, where he made many friends. Marty was a lifelong Yankee fan who didn't like to miss a game. When you visited Marty and Joan's home, it was as if you stepped into a Yankee museum. Marty proudly wore Yankee regalia wherever he went. Marty was also a proud member of Utica Legion Post 229.

Friends are invited to celebrate Marty's life, at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 N. Washington St., Herkimer, on Thursday evening, January 26, 2023, from 4-6 p.m. Interment will be in the spring, at the convenience of the family.
