Marjorie H. (Near) Roberts, 97, a resident of the Skilled Nursing Facility of the Little Falls Hospital since November 1999 and a former Salisbury Center and Dolgeville resident died on Sunday September 5, 2004 in Little Falls Hospital. She was born in Dolgeville on March 26, 1907 the daughter of Milford and Grace Mae (Jaquays) Jennings, and was educated in rural schools in Salisbury Center. Marjorie was married twice, first to Gerald Near on May 30, 1927, he died on January 29, 1970. She then married Edward Roberts in September 1985. He predeceased her on April 24, 1991. Marjorie was a member of the former Adirondack Senior Citizens and its' famous "Kitchen Band", the Oppenheim Senior Citizens, The Camera Club of Salisbury Center and was a member of the Universailist Church in Salisbury Center. She is survived by a daughter Nancy Bailey of Salisbury Center; her grandchildren Jill Hyde and her husband George, Donald Near and Robert Scott Near and his wife Mary; her great grandchildren Jessica, Jackson and Jameson Hyde, and Madison Near; a sister Dorothy Goodman of Leigh Acres, Fla., and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son Lowell Near on February 17, 1992 and a son-in-law Bernard Bailey on March 10, 2004. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday September 8, 2004 at 11 AM at the Salisbury Rural Cemetery - Rt. 29, Salisbury Center, NY with the Rev. Timothy Hume-Behrendt of the Salisbury Center Universailist Church officiating. There are no calling hours. Memorials may be sent to the Universalist Church of Salisbury Center in her memory. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the Roberts-Buck Funeral Home, 3 Faville Ave., Dolgeville.
