FRANKFORT – Marjorie H. Backus, age 65, a lifelong Mohawk Valley resident, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, November 15, 2024, in the privacy and comfort of her home.
Born on October 29, 1959, Marjorie was the daughter of the late Willard and Gloria (Jarvis) Martin. She was raised and educated in Utica and was a graduate of Utica Free Academy. She held a license as a Certified Nurse’s Aide and spent much of her career at the old Faxton Hospital in Utica.
On March 20, 1996, Marjorie was married to Lynn E. Backus in Schuyler and together they shared in a blessed union of over sixteen years, until Lynn’s untimely passing on February 9, 2013.
Marjorie was a private person who enjoyed the simplicity and peacefulness of being outdoors and with nature. She loved the Adirondacks and the calmness of being out in the mountains. She was full of piss and vinegar and everyone who knew her could attest to her feisty spirit! She was a fan of country music and had the greatest love for her children and especially for her granddaughters.
Marjorie is survived by her sons, Joseph Martin of West Winfield, Derek Martin of Frankfort and Lynn E. Backus, III of West Winfield; her granddaughters, Emily Morgan Martin and Olivia Rose Martin; her siblings, Skip, Bill, Mike, Bob, Betty, Rose and Sue; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws.
In keeping with Marjorie’s wishes there will be no formal services at this time. Her family will gather privately to honor and celebrate her life.
Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to the Enea, Ciaccia & Applegate Funeral Directors. Online notes of sympathy may be left at
