Lakeland, FL/Herkimer: Marion (Byrnes) Bates, 98, of Herkimer, NY and Lakeland, FL, died on Thursday, February 21, 2013 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Herkimer, Marion was the daughter of the late Henry and Julia Byrnes.
Marion was employed by the Herkimer Central School District as a teacher, then a principal, retiring after 43 years of service.
She was predeceased by her husband, Arthur Bates, her sister, Alice Baldwin, and her brother, Richard Byrnes.
She is survived by her sister-in-law, Joan Byrnes of Guilderland, NY, her brother-in-law, Raymond Baldwin of Mohawk, her nieces, Kathleen (Alan) Fiero of Voorheesville, and Lynda (Jim) Pelichowski of Windsor, CO, and her nephew, Daniel (Jennifer) Byrnes of Glenmont, NY and their children.
Marion's Funeral Mass will be celebrated by the Very Reverend Mark Cunningham on Monday, March 4, 2013 at 10:00 am in St. Francis de Sales Church, Herkimer.
