HERKIMER – Marilyn Trask, 84, of North Washington Street , Herkimer , New York , passed away quietly at her home on Thursday, June 28 th, 2018 after a long illness.

Marilyn was born on April 26 th , 1934 in Rochester , New York , to Leo and Louise Gartz Houser. Her family later moved to Dolgeville , New York in 1940. Marilyn was the youngest of nine children. Many will remember her brothers, Leo, Elmer, Ralph, Richard, Clarence and Winifred Houser and sisters, Eleanor Evans and Beatrice Clemons. Marilyn lost her mother, Louise, when she was eleven years old and was raised by her father and loving siblings. She was a graduate of Dolgeville Central School .

Marilyn entered in marriage with Francis Balderston on May 2 nd , 1952 in Marlboro, New Hampshire . The newlyweds returned to Salisbury , New York to start their lives together and raise their children. They had three children Herbert Balderston of Utica , Sandra Muller Solomon of Little Falls and Pamela Oldfield of Herkimer along with two beautiful stepdaughters, Barbara Hall of Dolgeville and Hazel (Rockwell) Buss of Johnstown. Marilyn’s life was filled with love for all she had under her care.

Marilyn worked at Daniel Greens Slipper Company for many years and had last worked at Van Allen Nursing Home after Francis expired on May 2 nd , 1989. She was employed there for three years, retiring in 1992.

Marilyn was married on September 26 th , 1992 to Albert Trask of Herkimer , New York where she lived happily with him, until his death May 16 th , 2007.

Marilyn’s final years were spent sharing her home with her grandson David Balderston and his family, Sheri and their children. She was comforted with their care and the sounds of young children around her.

She was predeceased by both her parents, six brothers and two sisters and sadly, all their spouses. She was the last of her generation and talked often of all of those who passed before her. She lived through the loss of every one of Francis’s siblings and their spouses, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and last year a beloved grandson, John Rockwell of St. Johnsville , New York . With each loss there were tears and heartache, but the fond memories prevailed to help her with grief.

She is survived by her son Herbert and Angie and family, daughters Sandra and Joel Solomon and family, Pamela and Terry Oldfield and family, Barbara and Larry Hall and family, and Hazel and Jim Buss and family. She will be missed by numerous grandchildren, great- grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
