Marilyn Wilson Hughes

Marilyn Wilson Hughes, age 97, died on Wednesday morning, September 9th, 2026, at Newark Manor Nursing Home, Newark, New York.

She was born on July 2nd, 1929, in Cambridge, New York, the daughter of the late Chester Lemuel and Irene (Depelli) Wilson.

She graduated from Frankfort High School in 1948 and was a member of the first class to graduate from MDT of Utica nursing program. She was a staff nurse at Faxton Hospital and later director of the Faxton Street Home and in 1995 she retired from the Oneida County Department of Social Services.

On January 2nd, 1949, in a ceremony in the Frankfort First Methodist Church performed by Major Charles S. Williams she was married to SP5 Gordon F. Irons, a career military who later died on active duty.

On December 28th, 1956, she was married to Roscoe Kendall Hughes in the Frankfort First Methodist Church with Rev. Calvin Zimmer officiating. Mr. Hughes died on October 27th, 2001.

Mrs. Hughes was a member of the Methodist Church for over seventy years and a member of the Evening Star Valley Chapter Order of the Eastern Star for seventy years.

Well known for her interest in history and genealogy she was a Past and Honorary Regent and over sixty-year member of the Col. Marinus Willett-Mohawk Valley Chapter NSDAR, an associate member of the Willard’s Mountain Chapter NSDAR, a member of the NSDAR Central New York Roundtable, and the NSDAR Heritage Society.

She had active memberships in the New England Historic Genealogical Society, The Heritage and Genealogical Society of Montgomery County, National Society Descendants of Colonial Clergy, National Society Descendents of Colonial Innkeepers Flagan and Trencher, National Society of Old New York Frontier Chapter Daughters of American Colonists, Glens Falls Colony National Society of New England Women, Mohawk Valley Chapter National Society Colonial Dames XVII Century, New York Branch National Society of Sons and Daughters of Pilgrims, a charter and life member of Order of First Families of Maine, a charter and life member of First Families of New Hampshire and the New England Historic Genealogical Society.

She was a supporter of the Historic Salem NY Court House Preservation, a member of Friends of Herkimer Home State Historic Site, a member of the Friends of Greenwich (NY) Free Library, Washington County Historical Society, and the New Hartford Historical Society.

She was a lifetime member of the Hampton, New Hampshire Historical Society as she was a direct descendant of Rev. Stephen Bachiler, founder of the town of Hampton and was a supporter of the Tuck Museum in Hampton.

Surviving are two daughters, Michelene (Mickie) and husband Douglas Finch, Canandaigua, and Kendalyn Mann, West Virginia, grandchildren, Colin Finch and wife Angela, Portland, Oregon, Jessica Finch, Johanna Finch and husband Sean Davey, Canandaigua, Kimberly Finch and husband Edward Dominy, Escondido, California, and Rae Mann and husband Zack Boyd, Madison, West Virginia. Two great grandsons Ian and Colin Davey, Canandaigua, and four great granddaughters Ryah, Makenna, and Ella Boyd, West Virginia and Paige Dominy, California. A sister-in-law Margaret Hughes, Frankfort, a special niece Barbara Wilson Labarbera, Herkimer, and a special cousin Harold Place, Atlanta, Georgia.

She was predeceased by a brother Warren Wilson and wife Helen, Mohawk, a sister Mary Louise Smith and husband Curtis, Ilion; brother-in-law Robert Hughes, Frankfort and brother-in-law Harold Durand and wife Helen, Ilion.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 17th, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the Enea & Ciaccia Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, Ilion, New York, to be officiated by son-in-law, Douglas Finch. Burial will follow this service at Oak View Cemetery, Frankfort.

Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours at the funeral home the same morning, Thursday from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM and attend the funeral and burial services that follow. The Nightengale Tribute, NSDAR members, and Eastern Star have been invited to attend services.
