Marian B. Palmer

LITTLE FALLS - Marian B. Palmer (Glowatcky), 90, formerly of 21 West Gansevoort Street , Little Falls, NY, passed away peacefully in the comfort and care of the Siegenthaler Center/Hospice in New Hartford, NY on March 10, 2018.

Marian was pre-deceased by her husband, G. Ruport (Rupe) Palmer on June 15, 1988. She is survived by her four children: James R. Palmer of Little Falls, Cynthia A. Palmer of Alabama , Susan P. Koziol of Little Falls, and Robert W. (Gale) Palmer of Fort Plain. A brother Howard ( Virginia ) Glowatcky of Evansville, IN; 7 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Her granddaughter, Jillian Palmer, was the sole grandchild who stayed by her side since 2012 up to her passing at the Siegenthaler Center .

Marian was born on August 9, 1927 in Little Falls, NY to George and Nellie (Myers) Glowatcky, residing with her parents in Manheim on Yellow Church Road . She attended the one-room schoolhouse on Burrell Road. On May 14,1949, she married her husband of 39 years, Ruport, in Trinity Christ Lutheran Church , Herkimer , NY . The couple met the old-fashioned way through neighbors, the Rugge and Vicker families, setting up a date between Ruport and Marian in the 1940’s after Ruport returned from the War. Ruport and Marian celebrated their 25 ^th wedding anniversary at 21 W. Gansevoort in 1974 which was a joyous occasion for all who attended. From 1960 to late 2012, Marian lived at her home in Little Falls, after which she resided at the Folts Home in Herkimer up to this February.

Marian was a kind individual who loved dogs, gardening, nature, canning, cooking, knitting, sewing, and helping others. She was an active member of the former Christ Lutheran and Methodist churches in Little Falls, a member of the local Astenrogen DAR chapter, and the former Little Falls Hospital Guild. She also volunteered to organize local Red Cross blood drives, served as a Brownie, Girl Scout, and Cub Scout leader and taught Sunday School.

Ruport and Marian always enjoyed a Friday night fish-fry at Kane’s Tavern, the Elks Club, a good meal at Henry’s (Canal Side), and enjoyed the time they were able to spend together on the Palmer Homestead on North Bush Rd. outside of Gloversville . Marian cared for her father, George, her father-in-law Godfrey, and her husband Ruport at 21 W. Gansevoort St. as their health declined in their later years, similar to her mother Nellie and her Aunt Beatrice, who enjoyed providing care for her elders and others in the Little Falls area.

Marian will be buried alongside her husband Ruport in the Prospect Hill Cemetery in Gloversville, NY on Tuesday May 1, 2018 at 11:30 AM with Pastor Naomi Sorrwar-Randall officiating. There are no calling hours. Cynthia and Robert would like to thank the staff at the Siegenthaler Center for their care and support in her final days. Also thank you to Janet Morgan her neighbor on Gansevoort St. for her long friendship and visiting Marian at the Hospice center. Marian’s final wishes were pre-arranged and entrusted to Harry and Kevin Enea.
