Mrs. Lucille J. Newport 79 of 274 Lotville Road Dolgeville, died Tuesday June 1, 2010 at Faxton-St. Lukes Hospital after an extended illness. Lucille was a resident of the Mohawk Valley Nursing Home in Ilion, prior to going to the hospital.
She was born in Little Falls, on February 23, 1931 the daughter of Charles and Shirley (Jeffers) Leavitt and was a graduate of Stratford High School, class of 1949.
Lucille was first employed by the former Eastern Footwear Company of Dolgeville, as a secretary and when they closed she assumed the same position with the Adirondack Bat Company of Dolgeville, retiring from there several years ago.
Her marriage to James H. Newport took place on September 3, 1965 in Connecticut. They would have celebrated 45 years of marriage this September.
Lucille was an avid reader and enjoyed her cat "Heidi".
She is survived by her husband James, her cousins, Connie Walrath, Thomas Hamilton, Avis DePiazza and Wava Markwardt.
Funeral services will be held on Friday June 4, 2010 at 11 am at the Roberts & Enea Funeral Home 3 Faville Avenue Dolgeville. Burial will follow in the Stratford Cemetery. Calling hours are on Thursday evening from 6:30 -8 PM and on Friday morning from 10AM until the time of the service.
Her arrangements were prearranged and entrusted to Brian A. Roberts, funeral director.
