Lois Ann Larsen

HERKIMER - Sadly announcing the passing. on October 28, 2023, of Lois Ann Larsen, of Herkimer, New York, loving wife to Carl Larsen for thirty years. She was the cheerful, musical daughter of Wendell and Dorothy Chantry of Conklin, New York and sister to Wendell Jr., (deceased), Connie, Frank and Larry Chantry. Lois was also a loving aunt and great-aunt to many nieces and nephews. She was born on April 1, 1956, on Easter Sunday and April Fools Day, a special lady whose red hair and happy smile will be missed by all who knew her.


After graduating in 1974 from Susquehanna Valley High School, Lois took her music to SUNY Binghamton, graduating there with her B.A. in music. She lived in Apalachin and Binghamton, working and playing in the Binghamton Symphony.


Soon after taking a job at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown, Lois met Carl through their mutual love of fitness and camping. Lois, Carl and Bassett spent the next thirty years together. Throughout her life she loved her books, her garden, her music, her bicycle and her family. She lived outdoors in the sunshine as much as she could.


In the spring of this year Lois contacted Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, a devastating aggressive case that took her life in only seven months, leaving a hole in her family that can’t possibly be filled.

Calling hours are at Enea & Ciaccia Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, Ilion, NY, on Friday, November 3, 2023, from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. and her Funeral Service will begin at 3:00 p.m.
