Larry T. Barkley

June 12, 1944 — March 21, 2025

MOHAWK – Larry T. Barkley, age 80, of Columbia Circle, Mohawk, passed away, on Friday, March 21, 2025, at Wynn Hospital, Utica, with Kathy Porter; his son, Ted Barkley; and close friends, Stephen and Sheryl Mc Cumber by his side.

He was born on June 12, 1944, in Harrisburg, PA, the son of Katherine Kosperski and graduated from Purchase Line High School, in PA. Larry was an active duty Vietnam Veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy, from 1963 to 1967. Mr. Barkley worked as a Field Service Engineer, at the Philips Medical Systems, in Pittsburg, PA, for over twenty years. He was an avid civil war history buff. He was an active football fan. Larry also loved playing golf when he visited PA.

Surviving family members include his long time companion of 29 years, Kathy Porter, with whom he lived with, in Mohawk; his son, Theodore “Ted” Barkley and his wife, Yuliya, of Pearl City, Illinois; Kathy’s sons, Master Chief USN, Michael J. Porter, Jr., and Patrick R. Porter and his partner, Derrick Graham; his sister, Julia “Babe” Shirley; and many nieces nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his son, Tracy; three uncles; his grandmother; his two sisters and brothers-in-law, Elizabeth Blazavich and Alex, and Margaret Novak and Anthony; and his brother and sister-in-law, George and Doris Kosperski.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home’s larger location facility, at 4309 Acme Road, Ilion, between Ilion and Frankfort.

Larry’s Funeral Service will be held at the funeral home, immediately following the calling hours, at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 9, 2025, with Father Paul Catena, Pastor of the Church of the Annunciation, Ilion, officiating.

In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to Kathy Porter, 8 Columbia Circle, Mohawk, NY 13407, for the benefit of Wounded Warriors and Tunnel to Towers, International Assoc. of Christians and Jews and Mercy Chefs, in Larry’s memory.
